    3. Hi: In 1861 a June convention was held and W.T.Willey (Waitman T. Willey) and J.S. Carlile were elected from United States senators from Virginia. They replaced J.M.Mason and R.M.T. Hunter, who were adherents of the Confederacy. The seats of Mason and Hunter, had been vacated. This is mentioned in a book I am currently reading called "The Divided Union". I do not know if the Willey mentioned above is any relation to Noah Willey, mentioned by Emily Matthews, but one never knows.
