    3. Pat Jones: Hi-my g grandfather did the same with the spelling of his surname. The Griffiths came from Scotland and immigrated to Pa. A majority of the family staid in Pa.using the same spelling but my g grandparents migrated into Illinois where he dropped the 's' from the name. This was due to the death threats received from the 'Mollie Maguires'. He feared for his life and that of his wife and family and evidently thought this would make some kind of difference with the change. So while I'm researching I have to use both spellings. I believe my g grandfather had an uncle that moved to Ohio, I think his name was Frank....however I only found this name mentioned just once in a letter by my grandfather but have very little info on this so I'm not even sure this was a Griffith.
