Dearest Norma: We descend from Jonas Griffith who came to America from Wales with the Presbyterians in the mid 1700's. All I know is that some of my kin say that we are welch, others Irish, and many say Scottish. I got this from early correspondence with Diane Hansen who lives in Arizona and Ann Stacy Keller who lives in Texas (my best guess). Since Ireland, Wales, Scotland and the UK are rather close together the Griffiths must have been mixed up in the citizen of what country thing. You may recall that the Scots and the Welch were saying, as males, that they were "English" by marriage! So we are now discovering the source of that information. I have not heard of James Paton specifically, but have some record of a James P. Griffith --somewhere. I will earmark it and get back to you when it comes past my eye. Hi Robert: Thank you for your message. My gg grandfather was James Griffiths born in Ayr, Scotland and immigrated to Pa. 1840 with wife and children. My maternal grandfather told me the Griffiths came from Scotland and Wales. As a young man his father William son of James showed him the family genealogy chart which dated back to the 1200's in Wales. Grandpa said there were kings and queens on it. His oldest sister took the chart along with the crest and tartan putting them all in a trunk and storing it in her basement. Her home was flooded and the trunk and everything in the basement had been swept away. No one else in the family has taken the time or interest to search for our ancestors with the exception of a 2nd cousin once removed started me on the research road. I am trying to track down my gg grandparents children, James Paton Griffiths being one of them. He is the only one left unaccounted for. Please do keep me in mind if you come across any info...all help greatly appreciated.
