Seeking descendants of James S. GRIFFITH of NY who md. my Sarah Elizabeth JACKSON in Ohio c.1845. Sarah was the daughter and sole surviving child of Tower JACKSON of Erie Co, OH. James and Sarah had three children: (1) Charles F., b. c. 1847 in Wisconsin; (2) Josephine ("Josie"), b.c. 1850 in Ohio, and (3) William A., b.c. 1855 in Ohio. In the 1850 census, this well traveled family was in Ward 3, Troy, Renssalaer Co, NY. Living with the family are two Irish immigrants Mary MULLIGAN, 17, and Bridget, 12. In the 1860 census, they were living in Milwaukee, WI. Living with the family were Margaret, 24, from Wisconsin, and Mary, 18, from Germany. In the 1880 census, they were living in Racine, WI. Living with them was Jennie C. ROBERTS, 23, a dressmaker from Wales. [James had been a prosperous merchant but appears in t he 1880 census as a clerk in a RR office. It may be that he was a victim of the financial panic of the mid-1870's. Wouldn't be the first in my families to have been so.] James died in Milwaukee in 1887. Sarah appears in the 1889-90 Milwaukee City Directory as a widow. In her father, Tower's, will of the late 1880's, Sarah and "her children", of Chicago, are named as the primary beneficiaries. Any help will be appreciated.
