Seeking parents and places of birth of John and Catharine Griffith. He first appeared on Shenandoah County, Virginia Personal Property Tax Lists in 1785. He and his son-in-law, John Valentine (m. Mary Griffith), jointly purchased a tract of land on Hawksbill Creek in 1786. He later bought property on Dry Run, where he died in 1820 and Catharine in 1824. These two tracts were located in present-day Page County, which was formed from parts of Shenandoah and Rockingham Counties in 1831. Besides Mary, other children were David, John, William, Sally, Rachel (m. Rickabaugh), Nancy, Ellen and Catharine. John and Catharine Griffith may have arrived in Shenandoah County from either Maryland or Pennsylvania possibly via Frederick County, Virginia. Joe Baker
