You did fine. I will tell you my one problem with the name Griffith is the spelling. My husband's family is Griffiths and I had a branch I knew was in the Cin OH area. I even had letters from them. I never really noticed the one man's signature on his letters to his brother. It seems that he dropped his s as did several of the others when they went to Cin. Now knowing to ck for not only the Griffiths but the Griffith name I found them listed in directories in Northern KY and the Cin area. Good luck with your William E. Griffith. I have one I finally found in NKY and hope to get his d/c on my nxt trip down to our son's home in NKY Pat Jones riverrat111@earthlink.net ----- Original Message ----- From: <SmokeSignalz@aol.com> To: <GRIFFITH-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, May 01, 2003 5:22 AM Subject: [GRIFFITH] 1st Posting re: this family > Hello Fellow Listmembers, > I'm a beginning genealogist, so I hope I'm doing this post correctly. > I'm looking for the parents/ancestors of the following man: > > William (middle initial possibly E.) Thanks to Myrna Wells and Susan McDowell I received the following info. Maybe it will be useful to someone else. Simon Monroe Griffth was my great grandfather on my mother's side. My Grandmother Ida Lee Griffith was youngest of nine children born to him and Mary Magdalyn (Martha) De Hart. Wonder if anyone has any other information about him or his wife and family. I did not know his first name had been Simon. I found Samuel J. Griffith listed in an article on CINCH as well as the Bellevue directory. I strongly believe this is our Samuel J. Griffiths: John GRIFFITHS b. 1799 N. Wales d. 8 Oct 1861 Madison Twp Jackson Co OH m. Elizabeth JONES (both of this Ruabon Parish Den N. Wales) 27 Apr 1822 This couple had 9 children that I have record of. The first three b and bapt in Wales and in Ruabon Parish Samuel J. was #7 born to John/Elizabeth. We thought he lived in Cin. As we thought his older brother, Edward did. I have quite a bit on Edward, but I am compiling more. I have not reached Samuel as of yet, but since he is so close and I am finding things I hope to get more on him. I have Samuel J. Griffiths b. 28 Apr 1840 homestead Jackson Co OH d. 22 Apr 1891 and buried at Moriah. I have a photo of his marker. I hope to get down again shortly. I am make it most anytime since I can crash at our son's home in Ft. Thomas. I do have a letter of two from Samuel J. to his brother David who took over the farm following the death of their father John. I would dearly love to make contact with this branch as I have with some of his brother Edward's line in the Cin/KY area. I don't have Samuel memorized as I do the first three boys. I do know Samuel was the first born on the Jackson Co homestead. I have compile a 4 1/2 cd set on this family so far and hope to keep it going. I will continue to work bk into Wales but hope to get the US branch up to date. Pat Jones riverrat111@earthlink.net
