My gg. grandfather's name was James Griffiths born in Rutherglen, Lanark, Scotland 1799. I have been compiling the family genealogy and a great number of the descendants still living in Pa. and I'm still searching. Norma E. Leibold: Southern California

    3. Emily: I have both a Charles Goering Griffith (my uncle) born in Illinois 1917, d:1985 Texas. Also have a John Griffiths born in Pa.b: 1882 Reilly Twnsp.Schuylkill Co.,Pa. m: Jane Crossman b:1884 Pa. John is the son of Alexander Griffiths and Sarah Miles. Alexander born in Mar 1835 Blantyre,Larnark, Scotland. Sarah Miles born someplace in Wales. So far in my research Alexander's descendants remained in Pa. they had 9 children. My own g.grandparents migrated 1878 into Ill. They had 7 living children but so far have discovered only one daughter remained in Pa. was married to Isaac Ball and lived in Mahanoy City, Pa. Alexander was still living with his son John in 1910, was an invalid (probably suffered from black lung decease as did my g.grandfather). I haven't found Alexander's death date. John and Jane had 7 children and so far have only found them in Schuylkill Co., Pa. >My g grandparents lived in Henry Co., Il. while my grandparents lived in Bureau Co., Il. as well and later LaSalle Co.,Il. I myself was born in Peru, Il. I am having a difficult time trying to keep all the descendants in order. However if I can be of any help....just let me know....I am knee deep in paper work as usual trying to get organized...with some difficulty I might add. Norma E. 3. Hi everyone! This is my first post here, and hope I do this right...This is my problem... I have been searching for these people for over 30 years...you'd think I would be used to frustration by now. Erven (Irven)Allen 1827 N.C. -1850 Clay county KY +Lydea (Ludie/Ludie/Lydia) (GRIFFITH/GRIFFIS/GRIFFIN/GRIFIN??) BARRETT 1828 TN-1853 KY Lucinda Allen b. 1856 KY + (1) George Frazier + (2) J.K. Martin KY Ollie Georgie Frazier Martin b. 1878KY-1959 KY Ok...Lucinda's family was connected to GRIFFITHS and she and Ollie returned home to the Griffiths who partly raised Ollie, before Lucinda's marriage to JK Martin.....Ludie may have been a GRIFFITH. My granpa Willie Combs (Ollie's son) told me over and over that this GRIFFITH line were registered native americans and that "Joe, Ginny (also found as Jenny and Jenetta) and Ellen/Eleanor GRIFFITH received their allotment monies...Several trips were made to Oklahoma, and it was there in Seminole County that my granpa was born....but he and his mother returned to KY.. My mother, who is remission with breast cancer, got a dna test for the cancer gene, and her test just happened to prove also that she is 26% native american.told her many years ago that if I could do this for her, I would try.....so I am trying to find this tie-in and hopefully these elusive GRIFFITHS. does any of this ring a bell with anyone? thanks in advance, karen

    3. Pat Jones: Hi-my g grandfather did the same with the spelling of his surname. The Griffiths came from Scotland and immigrated to Pa. A majority of the family staid in Pa.using the same spelling but my g grandparents migrated into Illinois where he dropped the 's' from the name. This was due to the death threats received from the 'Mollie Maguires'. He feared for his life and that of his wife and family and evidently thought this would make some kind of difference with the change. So while I'm researching I have to use both spellings. I believe my g grandfather had an uncle that moved to Ohio, I think his name was Frank....however I only found this name mentioned just once in a letter by my grandfather but have very little info on this so I'm not even sure this was a Griffith. 1. [GRIFFITH] 1400s/Wales>1600s/Virginia/GRIFFITH and marriages
    2. Hello, Does anyone happen to have the ancestry of Rowland/Roland GRIFFITH, born: Abt. 1605, died: 1671 in Isle of Wight County, Virginia, who was the father of Jane GRIFFITH, born: Abt. 1650 in New Port Parish, Isle of Wight County, Virginia, died: Abt. 1719 in New Port Parish, Isle of Wight County, Virginia, who married in 1671 in Isle of Wight County, Virginia to Michael DESLOGES, born: Abt. 1645 in England, died: Abt. 1710 in Isle of Wight county, Virginia, who were the ancestors of descendants with spellings of DeLOACH(E) and other variations that married into my PIERCE and MYRICK families and other connecting families including the GOODWIN families that married into the aforementioned and BRAMBLETT/BRAMLET(T) and other connecting families. I am also very interested in whether/how this Rowland/Roland GRIFFITH and Jane GRIFFITH of Wales connect to the GRIFFITH family group of Sage GRIFFITH/Sage ferch Griffith, born: 1521 in Bodorgan, Anglesey, Wales, who was the daughter of Maud LOYD and James GRIFFITH who was the son of Sage THOMAS, born: 1465, and Howell GRIFFITH, born: 1461 in Bodorgan, Anglesey, Wales. This Sage GRIFFITH/Sage ferce Griffith married (Sir) John MEYRICK/MERRICK, (later on MYRICK mostly in U.S. and mostly in Southern U.S. but some in North and the original Welsh spelling was MEURIG/MEURIC,) born: Abt. 1513 in Llandachya/Llandegai, Wales, died: in Anglesey, Wales, who was the son of the High Sheriff of Bodorgan, Anglesey, Wales who was also the Captain of the Guard and personal guardian for the coronation of his cousin, Henry VIII, (King of England,) and his name was (Captain) Meurig/Meyrick ap Llewelyn, (aka Llewellyn,) born: 1483 in Bodorgan, Anglesey, Wales, died: November 30, 1538 in Anglesey, Wales, and his wife, Margaret/Margared verch (Syr) Roland, born: Abt. 1485 in Aberffrwa, Anglesey, Wales, md: Abt. 1502, daughter of (Syr/Sir) Roland ap Hywel/Howell, (Rector of Abberfraw in Anglesey, Wales.) And interested in how these two GRIFFITH lines from Wales shown above may have connected with the GRIFFITH family group of Agnes GRIFFITH, born: Abt. 1520 in North Wales, daughter of (Sir) William GRIFFITH, born: Abt. 1495 in North Wales, (I believe,) son of Jane STRADLING and husband, (Sir) William GRIFFITH, born: Abt. 1475 in Perhyn, Wales, died: 1531. This Agnes GRIFFITH was the wife of Hugh LEWIS, I/Sr., born: Abt. 1515 in North Wales, son of Elizabeth VAUGHN, born: Abt. 1500, and John LEWIS, (Esquire,) born: Abt. 1500 in Wales, son of Janet BULKEL(E)Y, born: Abt. 1480, and Janet's husband, Hugh LEWIS/Hugh Lewis Hen or Hugh ap Lewis Hen/Hugh Lewis, who was born: Abt. 1480, son of Margery/Margary "Mali" verch Ievan/Ifan Loyd/Lloyd. Looking forward to hearing from anyone who might know more information about these GRIFFITHs and how these GRIFFITH families connect. Thanks very much. Sincerely, Bellinda Myrick-Barnett

    2. Happy Texan
    3. Jeannette, the one thing we ALL have in common, is a William Griffith! I, like most of us, have also found Griffith spelled as Griffits/Griffin/Griffist/Griffydd/Gryffydd (in theWelch langage--dd is pronounced like 'th'). It was spelled that way after they came over as well! William seems to be very a common name. I have the Griffith line (with many Williams, of course) that comes from Md (1600's) to Va/(1780-1830's) and northwestward. There are several Griffith books out there, by various authors, that may be of help. Try searching www.bookfinder.com and see what might be available. If you get back to my area and in the early 1800's I'll be happy to see what I may have. ( I pick up that line in a marriage in 1795, but do have more data.) We all have brick walls, and what an exciting event when that clay crumbles! With best wishes for good luck, Leah ----- Original Message ----- From: "Pat Jones" <riverrat111@earthlink.net> To: <GRIFFITH-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, May 01, 2003 8:08 AM Subject: Re: [GRIFFITH] 1st Posting re: this family > You did fine.
