Hi Cynthia, didn't know we had another new list administrator - but welcome anyway. The list went very quiet for ages apart from the odd occasional message, but now seems to have woken up again. Unfortunately for me it is of course mainly a US list & I am only researching Welsh ancestors! But I'll stay on list just in case. Hi. Looking for parents and sibs of Thomas A. Griffitts/Griffiths/Griffith b. 1795 possibly in VA, m. Nancy Elmore in 1832 in Milton, Caball Co., WV , and Thomas is b. in Mechanicsburg, IL or IN. Hope somebody out there has something on him. Can his father possibly be a William? That seems to be the only dates that will match. Some of his descendants ended up in IN and KS and TX. Thanks for just any tips, no matter how trivial. Glad to share info. Rita in Salt Lake (And yes, I have been to the FHC in Salt Lake. No help!) It's as if he never existed!
Hi, Everyone keeps talking about "the list" but I'm not sure what list that is. How do I access it to see if I can find any link there? Suzan
Good Morning, My husband's side of the family is Lewis Griffiths born abt 1750 Montgomeryshire, Wales died Wales Wife: Catherine b abt 1760 died Wales Known Children: Lewis Griffiths b Jan 1780 Cemmaes, Montgomeryshire, Wales christened Jan 20, 1780 d Jul 31, 1834 Paddys Run, Butler Co, Ohio William Griffiths nothing known except born in Wales Mary Griffiths nothing known except born in Wales Lewis b 1780 d 1834 married Jane Mills b Aug 4, 1792 Llanidloes, Montgomery shire, Wales d Jun 17, 1877 Sugar Creek, Allen County, Ohio Children: Margaret Griffiths: born Aug 24, 1812 Montgomeryshire, Wales Lewis Griffiths b Jan 14, 1828 Radnorshire, Wales d Mar 1907 Sugar Creek, Allen Co, Ohio Jane Mills Griffith married a second time to Joseph Griffiths in Paddy's Run, Butler Co, Ohio. Would like to find out if Lewis born 1780 and Joseph were related. Also, what happened to Margaret? There was never anything else about her anywhere. Would appreciate any help. Oma
Clint, That was all the information in the book. You might check the Kentucky Census for 1850, it would show his parents; however that probably would be an arduous task. Isn't it interesting that they both died in 1883, wonder if there was an epidemic or something? Could there be a write up in the paper, an obituary that tells where they were born? You also might check death records for them, they may or may not give you other information. Sometimes you can hit a goldmine with deeds that say 'John Smith of Whatever, Kentucky' which would show the location they were in, when the land was purchased. Do you know this Wilkerson lady, she may be related to you, and could have other information that would lead to clues. This book was published some time ago, and Mrs. Wilkerson may no longer be with us, but may have children that were interested. I do wish you great luck! Isn't it fun being Sherlock Holmes? Hi Oma, Please feel free to ask for help. I hope that you are able to connect with someone who knows something about your family. I have been the GRIFFITH List Administrator for more than a year and have never had any problems with people posting rude or controversial messages. It appears that someone did post some aggressive messages yesterday. They will not be tolerated. We are all here to enjoy and assist each other with our genealogy. Again, I hope that everyone will feel free to post polite and helpful messages without any flaming of other posters here. Best wishes with all of your research!
