I have been searching for a Garabini record prior to his appearance in the 1850 census in Mississippi with his family many of whom were born in NY. Many searches seem to trigger the Griffin families. Did you ever find the unindexed record you mention? Joseph Garabini came from Italy and married an American girl Mary Jane Tichenor around 1834 and had moved with his to Louisiana and Mississippi by the time of the 1850 census. He reappears alone in a deed transaction in New Jersey in the 1860s and then again in a street directory there around 1885. Otherwise he and the rest of his family vanish. His wife probably divorced had returned to New Jersey and remarried. One probable daughter appears on a ship manifest from Panama around 1859 and again in a Nevada marriage. He may have been in Panama, Puerto Rico and or California. The rest of the family may have changed their names and Griffen is a possibility. Any help would be really a! ppreciated.
