Author: NWillian Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.griffin/6409.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: your mattie comes from bryant glen griffin (1827-1909). his father was thomas c. griffin (1803-1870)-mother was nancy stewart (1810-?). all were born in cumberland, nc & died in henry cty, al. thomas's father is known only as General W. griffin who was born circa 1780 in ireland. i have no further info on the general. he was very well known. the city of griffin ga was named for the general. an interesting side note: the doc holiday who was born in nearby macon, ga was a close friend of the general & went to his funeral where he said he (the general) was the meanest sob he had ever met!! you can find more info on the general if you google griffin, ga. if you need further help, check out my tree on ancestry.com. the tree is griffin, rollo, adams, lees, albrittons, halls & others. let me add another twist to this story. your mattie searcy griffin is the younger sister of my gtgrandmother who also married a griffin. as far as i can find, ea sister married into a different griff! in sister. bryant also had a dau named emma. my gtgranfather had a sister named ida emma who married robert edward lee, the grandfather of my gt grandmother molley & your mattie. confusing, huh? feel free to contact me at clubcurve@bellsouth.net anytime, nancy Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
