Diane, I'm still grasping at straws -- trying to find my great grandfather,Lee GRIFFIN and his brother Fate (Lafayette?) GRIFFIN. There may have been more siblings. I suspect they may have been born in NC so am wondering if these names are in your GRIFFIN line? I've read that the Griffin name is Welsh, but I haven't been able to go back any further than my great great great grandfather, William C. Griffin. He was born in North Carolina--I don't where in NC. My great great grandfather, Rufus Marion Griffin, was born in Cherokee Co., NC (this information came from my grandmother). If I am not supposed to communicate directly, please guide me in the proper way of making inquiries. I am a relative new member of Ancestry. I am searching for a Griffin fellow whose first name I do not know. If I am correct, he had a family with him on a farm in Garrard County in KY.in the late 1800's. My great Aunt Sophie Owens informed the Cowan and the Floyd families, descendants, in a Floyd-Cowan Family Reunion about 45 years ago that a Mr. _________Griffin, a farmer in that area, slept with a Native American lass ( I believe she was an employee nanny, helper who live with the family) named Clarissa and from that union came Fannie our great grandmother. To help further, when Fannie became of age Mr. ________ Griffin gave her hand to a Negro man named Wallace Cowan. About two years later Mr.________Griffin became unhappy with Wallace's treatment of Fannie. He separated them and gave her hand to Aaron Floyd in (May 15th) 1869 in Boyle, Lincoln, or Garrard County. Aaron was born, we believe, in 1839 -1840. Fannie and Aaron were about the same age but we are not sure where she was born,..possibly Boyle, Pulaski or Garrard Counties, KY. Among the uncertainties we have; ~first what was Mr. ____Griffin's (or was it Griffith) first name ? ~did he have a farm in Boyle or Garrard,..or both ad in what years...........? ~ what was his wife's name,..(Sarah ?) and what were the children's names....? ~ was he in the military in the war between States.....? Rank ? ~ did Aaron work on his farm,..or on the Davis Floyd's farm nearby ? We have a hundred more questions. We are open,..even eager, to respond to questions you may have. Does the information I have shared, help you in some manner. I hope we can connect with good results for us both. V.
