Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Columbus City Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the Stacy-Lewis Funeral Home in Columbus Junction. Mrs. Griffin was born Nov. 3, 1932, in Columbus Junction, the daughter of Orville and Mildred VanAuken Hills. She worked as a finish operator at Sheller Globe in Iowa City for 15 years. She loved to fish. Survivors include her son, Randy Griffin of Columbus Junction; a brother, Donnie Hills of Winfield; a sister, Delores Hamilton of Fredonia; four grandsons; two nieces; and three nephews. She was preceded by her parents; a daughter, Belinda; and a nephew and niece. =================== Oela Griffin, 93, Colorado Springs, formerly of Muscatine, died Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2006, at Medalion Health Care Center, Colorado Springs. Entombment will be at the Shrine of Remembrance Mausoleum, Garden of Angels. Memorials may be made to Pikes Peak Hospice Foundation, 825 E. Mrs. Griffin was born Aug. 5, 1912, in Knoxville, Tenn., the daughter of William and Martha Summey Keeble. She married Robert L. Griffin on Sept. 21, 1967, in Muscatine. He preceded her in death in November 1995. She resided in Colorado Springs since 1969. She was a bookkeeper, homemaker and a member of the Colorado Springs Women's Bowling Association and the Penrose Community Hospital Women's Auxiliary. Survivors include three daughters, Bettye Carlisle and husband Lindy of Palatka, Fla., Linda Husband and husband Robert and Susan McLaughlin and husband Jack, all of Colorado Springs; 13 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Steven Edmondson; a daughter, A. Joyce Husband; three brothers; and three sisters. ================== IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Mary J. Griffin, 83, Iowa City, formerly of Columbus Junction, died Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2004, at the Iowa City Rehabilitation and Health Care Center. Services are 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 14, at the Stacy-Lewis Funeral Home, Columbus Junction. The Rev. Betsey Neipert will officiate. Casket bearers are John Fuhrmeister, Steve Maher, Terry Ruff and Michael O'Donnell. Burial will be at Columbus City Cemetery. Mrs. Griffin was born April 1, 1920, in Iowa City, the daughter of Leonard and Mabel Wickham Fuhrmeister. She married William J. Hanft in 1947 in Kahoka, Mo. He preceded her in death in 1967. She later married Donald E. Griffin Nov. 29, 1969, in Columbus Junction. She had been a resident of the Columbus Junction area since 1947. She helped her husband Bill operate a Cook House in the Carnival business for 26 years, and she was the owner/operator of D & H Produce, Fredonia, for 26 years. She was a member of Columbus Junction United Methodist Church. She liked to play bingo and cards. Survivors include two brothers, Paul Fuhrmeister and wife, Alice, of Iowa City and Leonard Fuhrmeister of Amana. She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; a brother, Raymond; and a sister, Catherine. ================ FREDONIA, Iowa -- Edward J. Griffin, 74, Fredonia, died Tuesday, June 17, 2003, at the VA Medical Center, Iowa City. Graveside services are 10 a.m. Friday, June 20, at the Indian Creek Cemetery. The Stacy-Lewis Funeral Home, Columbus Junction, is handling the arrangements. Mr. Griffin was born on May 27, 1929, in Melrose, the son of William P. and Kathleen A. McGrath Griffin. He married Eva M. Hills on Dec. 6, 1959. She preceded him in death on April 16, 2001. He later married Lula R. Murry on Dec. 26, 1971. In the 1970s, he worked 16 years as a wildcater on drilling rigs in Michigan and Wyoming. In the 1960s he worked on the gas drilling rigs in the Columbus Junction area. He also worked as a railroad foreman. He was an U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and a member of the American Legion. Survivors include a son, Randy Griffin of Fredonia; four grandchildren, Aaron Troy Lee, Justin Keil, Andy Keil and Joshua Keil; two brothers, Jerry Griffin and his wife, Bette, and Paul Griffin, all of Columbus Junction; and two sisters, Patricia L. Cocklin and her husband, Clinton, of Wapello and Loretta M. Bailey and her husband, Jim, of Fort Madison. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Eva; a stepdaughter, Belinda Keil; two sisters; and four brothers. ========== WAPELLO, Iowa -- Crotty C. Griffin, 79, Wapello, died Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2003, at the Great River Medical Center, West Burlington. Private family services are Saturday at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home, Wapello. The Rev. Dan Doolin will officiate. Pallbearers are Rick Griffin, Jason Griffin, Davy Orr, Jimmy Griffin, Kimberly Wilson and Brock Wilson. Burial will be at the Wapello Cemetery, Wapello, with military rites by the Wapello Veterans of Foreign Wars. Visitation is after noon Friday, with family present 6:30-7:30 p.m., at Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home. Mr. Griffin was born on May 21, 1923, in Milford, the son of Paul and Clara Moeller Griffin. He married Cleo Joyce Blessing on Feb. 4, 1946, in Spencer. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, serving in France and Germany. He was a member of the Wapello VFW Glenn Allen Post No. 5166, the Wapello Board of Public Grounds, the Carpenter's Union and Ducks Unlimited. He was a carpenter, welder and a construction worker. He enjoyed fishing and hunting. He was an avid eagle watcher. He enjoyed many years of attending sporting events where his grandchildren participated, however, most of all he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Crotty A. Griffin and his wife, Doris, and Jim Griffin and his wife, Jackie, all of Wapello; a daughter, Becky Orr and her husband, Dave, of Columbus Junction; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a sister, Audrey Whitaker of Wapello; and a brother, Tom Griffin of Spencer. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and a sister. ============== MORNING SUN, Iowa -- Mary Eva Griffin, 70, Morning Sun, died Monday, Oct. 7, 2002, at the Morning Sun Care Center. Services are 11 a.m. Thursday at the United Methodist Church, Morning Sun. The Rev. Chris Thomas will officiate. Musical selections will be provided by organist Geneva Samuels and vocalist James Dilts. Honorary pallbearers are Janice Pobuda, Marti Minnis, Marcella Bryant, Libby Schrader, Tammy Eagen, the staff at Morning Sun Care Center and the members of TOPS. Burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery, Morning Sun. Her body was cremated. Visitation is 9-11 a.m. Thursday at the church. A memorial fund has been established for the benefit of creating a Hospice Room at the Morning Sun Care Center. The Hagele and Honts Funeral Home, Morning Sun, is in charge of the arrangements. Mrs. Griffin was on born on Jan. 16, 1932, in Toolesboro, the daughter of James and Florence Court Dilts. She married John William Griffin Sr. on July 3, 1949, in Columbus Junction. He preceded her in death on Aug. 26, 1997. She worked at the canning factory in Columbus Junction and then worked in production of Army Ammunitions at the IAAP, Middletown, for 25 years. She was a member of the United Methodist Church and the UMW, Morning Sun; a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post No. 100, Columbus Junction; and a member of TOPS, Wapello. She loved hunting mushrooms. She enjoyed her flowers and gardening and had recently received a beautification award for her home decor. Survivors include a son, John William Griffin Jr. and his wife, Christine, of Mooresville, N.C.; a daughter, Tamara Martin and her husband, Larry, of Columbus Junction; five grandsons, Bhrett, Ian, Collin, Earl and Joseph; four sisters, Helen Hobbs and her husband, Marvin, of Morning Sun, Elsie Walker of Wapello, Shirley Cupps of Columbus Junction and Betty Lou Knight of Morning Sun; a brother, Richard Dilts and his wife, Marie, of Burlington; and an aunt, Evelyn Brem of Mount Pleasant. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, Patrick; and two brothers, John and Robert. ============== COLUMBUS JUNCTION, Iowa -- Robert C. Griffin, 78, Columbus Junction, died Wednesday, June 26, 2002, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City. Private family services will be held. Burial will be at Columbus City Cemetery. There will be no public visitation. Arrangements are under the direction of the Stacy-Lewis Funeral Home, Columbus Junction. Mr. Griffin was born March 27, 1924, in rural Letts, the son of Carl and Ida Fullerton Griffin. He married Dorothy Dean Carlisle Aug. 26, 1944, in Muscatine. He worked with Farm Service for 24 years before retiring. He was a Protestant by faith and a long-time member of the Muscatine Moose Lodge. He loved horses, traveling and country music. Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Diane Fry of Scottsdale, Ariz., Nancy Moore of Oklahoma City, Okla. and Carolyn Griffin of Ankeny; a son, Randy Griffin and wife Peggy of Grandview; six grandchildren; three sisters, Elizabeth Reeves of Atalissa and Beverly Griffin and Shirley Porter, both of Wheatland; and a brother, Alton Griffin of Columbus Junction. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Donald Griffin. =========== MUSCATINE, Iowa -- Grace Parry Griffin, 97, 2421 Lutheran Drive, died Thursday, June 27, 2002, at Lutheran Homes. Memorial services are 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 2902 Lucas St. Bishop Daniel Laughead will officiate. Burial of the cremains will be at Oak Ridge Cemetery, West Liberty. There will be no visitation. Memorials may be made to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Mrs. Griffin was born on Sept. 29, 1905, in Atalissa, the daughter of Chester and Myra Ransom Parry. She married Richard Hartung on Sept. 14, 1929. She then married Clarence Carter on Aug. 9, 1959. She later married William Griffin on March 20, 1982. She had worked as a bookkeeper and when living in Long Beach, Calif., she owned a restaurant called the 'Chat & Nibble'. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Pocahontas, and was an accomplished musician and vocalist. Survivors include a son, Ronald Hartung and his wife, Irene, of West Linn, Ore.; four grandchildren, Todd Hartung of West Linn, Rhonda Lowe and Sheryl Hartung, both of Muscatine, and Debra Levonyak of Bellevue, Wash.; 10 great-grandchildren; and three great great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; three husbands; a son, James in infancy in 1932; and a sister. ================= WAPELLO, Iowa - Cleo Joyce Griffin, 82, of Wapello, died Saturday, Sept. 29, 2007, at the Wapello Nursing and Rehab Center. The Rev. Dan Doolin will officiate. Private burial will be held later at the Wapello Cemetery. A memorial has been established for the Wapello Volunteer Fire Department. Mrs. Griffin was born June 21, 1925, at Greenville, the daughter of Allen and Hazel Cole Blessing. She graduated from Lake Center High School. Before moving to Wapello, she worked for the recruitment section of the Division of Shore Establishments and Civilian Personnel for the U.S. Navy in Washington D.C. She married Crotty Calvin Griffin Feb. 4, 1946, in Spencer, Iowa. He preceded her in death Jan. 8, 2003. She lived in Wapello and worked for and retired from the Louisa County Department of Human Services. She also worked out of the Mt. Pleasant office. She was recognized for 26 years of volunteer service from the governor of Iowa. She was a member of the Wapello Nursing and Care Center Review Committee and the VFW Ladies Auxiliary. She was an Iowa Hawkeyes fan and a Wapello Indians and Arrows fan. She loved being with her family and especially enjoyed attending all of her grandchildren's and their friend's school events. She is survived by two sons, Crotty A. and Doris Griffin and Jim and Jackie Griffin, both of Wapello; a daughter, Becky and Dave Orr of Columbus Junction; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; six sisters; and two brothers.
