Hi there, My "Griffin" relatives came from Whimple, Devonshire, England. Several of them came , but the main ones were Henry and Charles Griffin. Henry came a few months before the start of the civil war, and signed up with the First Michigan Cavalry, and rode with them until he was captured by the Rebs at the Battle of Second Manassas. My wife's relatives were in the Confederate Army, and mine in the Union Army, but in spite of that we get along famously. s -----Original Message----- From: griffin-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:griffin-bounces@rootsweb.com]On Behalf Of JDixon8671@aol.com Sent: Monday, February 16, 2009 5:31 AM To: griffin@rootsweb.com Subject: [GRIFFIN] David & Lewis L. Griffin-Georgia Very interested in sharing information. Lewis L. Griffin is in my line. Diane Dixon In a message dated 1/21/2009 3:02:25 A.M. According to census info his father was born in England and his mother in Va. In about 1812 the family moved to Hickman Co.,TN. It is possible that his mother was widowed at the time of the move. They lived in TN until about 1825 when David and perhaps his mother moved on to Gallatin Co., IL. In about 1833 David moved on to Cass Co.,IL where he met and married Sarah Cole in 1847. I have information on his life from that point on to his death in Iowa in 1905 at the home of one of his daughters. I am hoping a fellow Griffin researcher might know something. David may have had some brothers who also moved to IL. The family story is that our Griffin line is the same as Lewis L. Griffin of SC who moved to Georgia in the very early part of 1800 and prior to the Civil War founded the town of Griffin, GA. I need information on David from 1808 to 1847 and names of his parents and possible s! iblings. **************Need a job? Find an employment agency near you.
