Author: jbtomberlin_1 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.griffin/902.2196/mb.ashx Message Board Post: My g-g-grandfather was Jesse. I have spoken with some of you in the past (long time ago). One of his sons was James Marion. That is where my line comes from. My grandfather was Marion Titus Griffin. He lived in Wingate. You can find Jesse and Tarley in the Griffin Cemetary off Hwy 601 on Griffin Cemetary Road (close to Mountain Springs Baptist Church). I am lucky that I can find Jesse to my grandfather in the same cemetary. That is four grandfathers. I was wondering if anyone has traced Jesse's line to his fathers or grandfathers? I haven't been able to do research for a while now, but have long since hit a roadblock with Jesse. Any info would be great Take care. 3. Bryan, according to my records: Jesse Amos "Jeppe" Griffin, married Abigail Octavia Johnson and had 10 children, and they lived in "Rocky Face," GA. (around Dalton). Abigail died in 1903, and Jesse remarried to "Lula" (Tallulah ?) Edwards...and she shows up on the 1910 and 1920 census with him. Jesse died in 1921. Their children's names do NOT include a "James Marion" - John Henry Griffin (my paternal grandfather) M/ Olivia Evelyn Morrison (and they lived in Rome, GA) - Lucinda Daisy Griffin M/ Lester Love - Marcus Hale Griffin M/ Helen Lenore Hunt - Mary Esther Griffin M/ Tommy Love Lowry - Dennis Griffin M/1 Virginia L. Jones & M/2 Carrie Mel Shipe - Fletcher Walton Griffin M/1 Ruby Carlton & M/2 Marian Long - Thomas Piece Griffin M/1 Pearl Irene Britton & M/2 Lillian Gates - Samuel Snow Griffin M/ Edith Johnson - James Amos Griffin (Died in childhood) - Noyce Lovie Griffin M/ Cecilia Bastian Unfortunately I do not have confirmed information about his parents, but the general story goes: An ancestor was granted land in GA in return for service in the Revolutionary War...and that eventually stimulated a move from North Carolina (which then, of course, also encompassed present day TN). Interesting point: the info above was compiled MANY years back by Noyce, my aunt Miriam (John Henry's oldest daughter) and a cousin referred to as "Rev. Reese Griffin" - which means he's descended from one of Jesse's brothers (also likely from N. GA). Maybe that clue will unlock something. I've heard there's a direct descendant living in the area who knows the full genealogy of most Griffins in the local cemetery.
