Author: jantrevor Surnames: Griffin Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.griffin/6802.2.1.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Agreed, most Griffin direct Y paternal lines do appear to (in many cases) trace back to either Ireland (Griffin) or (Griffith) Wales for the most part. However, some Griffin men married Native American women during the Colonial period. For those families, signs of that Native American ancestry can still be present. And in some cases during removal, these male Griffin men who were married to NA women, chose to be removed to stay with their families. You can see these families identified on removal records as mixed families. Those Griffin lines and their descendants in Oklahoma and some in Arkansas still identify as NA, whereas others no longer identifed as NA after removal. My commentary is in response more to my original data posted rather than to a specific family. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
