Of the migration routes identified in the survey, 27.8% said their family's migration routed included Virginia, Georgia, Alabama, Texas and some to CA 0.0% Virginia, Kentucky, Missouri 16.7% Virginia, North Carolina, Georgia, 5.6% Virginia, Tennessee, Arkansas, Texas 5.6% Virginia, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida 44.4% Indicated their family took an "Other route" (Since I've historically focused on Southern Griffin families, I would love for any Northern Griffin's to share their family route...please feel free to email me via my Ancestry profile.) -------- When asked if their Griffin family had an oral history of Native American ancestry: 35.3% said yes 64.7% said no ------- Since Griffin families are varied, when asked how their Griffin family is currently identified: 83.3% said White 0% African American 11.1 Native American 5.6% Mixed Ancestry ----------- When asked what the oral history is as to their family's original country of origin: 15.4% said England 53.8% said Ireland 23.1% said Wales 0% said Scotland 7.7% said Other -------- When asked how long they had been researching their Griffin line, respondents said: 11.1% 1-2 years 5.6% 2-5 years 27.8% 5-10 years 55.6% 10 years Clearly, we Griffins love researching our family history! -------- Of those families that reported some Native American ancestry, what tribe did they believe were their family members associated with (did not have to be registered members) Creek - 6.3% Cherokee - 25% Choctaw - 6.3% Chikasaw - 0% Other - 0% No Native American history - 62.5% ------ When asked if they are participating in the Griffin surname DNA project: 31.3% Yes 68.8 No ------- When asked what Griffin name spelling variations are part of their family research: 94.4% Griffin 22.2% Griffen 11.1% Griffith 5.6% Griffis 0% Gryffud ----- When asked if their Griffin family was historically Baptist or Methodist (as their appears to have been a split after the Great Awakening) 64.3% report Baptist 28.6% report Methodist 7.1% Other ------ When asked if their family had ever described themselves as Black Irish, Black Dutch or Melungeon: Of those that responded: 33.3% reported Black Irish 33.3% reported Black Dutch 33.3% reported Melungeon For the meaning of the terms Black Irish, Black Dutch, and Melungeon, please see Wikipedia. ----------- As more people respond to the survey, I'll post updated results once a month or so.
