I have not had my DNA tested but I am a direct descendent of the Griffins from Edgecombe County, NC. My Great grandfather Arrista Patrick (Ralph) Griffin m.Lula Belle Armstrong and they are both buried in Jacksonville, Fl. Arrista is the son of William Griffin and Louisa Brake. Louisa is buried in the Brake Cemetery in Edgecombe. William died in 1859, b@ 1810. They were among a large family of Griffins that lived along the Deloache Branch of the Cokey Swamp, about halfway between Rocky Mount and Tarboro. I'm not positive but I think William shows up in the 1830 or 1840 census in the household of Margaret Griffin, widow of Zachariah Griffin, who had been the householder before his death. But William doesn't show in Zachariah's will, unless he is "the descendants of James Griffin". Does any of this sound familiar? My brick wall is William. I'd like to know definitively who his father was. I believe Zacariah had brother's Lewis and John and all were son's of a William Griffin Who bought about 400 acres along the Deloache Branch in 1793. I have a copy of the deed. He is one among several Griffins going back to like 1765 when Francis Griffin bought land there. Hope to hear from you.
