Griffin Latrobe Ernest T. Griffin, 62, of Latrobe, died Sunday, Feb. 21, 2010, in Excela Health Westmoreland Hospital, Greensburg. He was born March 24, 1947, in Latrobe, a son of the late James and Barbara (Sell) Griffin. Ernest was a member of Holy Family Church. He was retired from the State of Florida, Broward County. He was a Vietnam War veteran, having served two tours of duty with the Army. He was a member and past commander of the VFW in Latrobe and Florida. He was also a member of and the Frontier Club. He was a former assistant golf pro at Ligonier Country Club and Timberlink Golf Course. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph A. Griffin; and a niece, Stacy Leupold. Ernest is survived by his daughter, Karry, of North Carolina; three brothers, James H. Griffin and his wife, Patricia, of Richmond, Va., William Robert Griffin and his wife, Mary Ann, of Indiana, Pa., and Lawrence S. Griffin and his wife, Melinda, of Greensburg; and five sisters, Mary E. Gri! ffin, of Latrobe, Suzanne Markiewicz and her husband, Edward, of Derry Township, Barbara Jean Griffin, of Latrobe, Delia T. Leupold and her husband, James, of Wyomissing, and Margaret A. Hillebrecht and her husband, James, of Latrobe. He is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews. Family and friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in the JOHN J. LOPATICH FUNERAL HOME INC., 601 Weldon St., Latrobe. Military services will be conducted at 9:15 a.m. Thursday in the funeral home by American Legion Post 515 and VFW Post 3414. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday in Holy Family Church with the Very Rev. Daniel C. Mahoney, VF, as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery.
