I'm not sure if this is your Bennet or not, but I found this in the November 3, 1882 issue of the Rockland (Maine) Gazette: "In our item last week about the Stephen Bennett, we stated that we thought the vessel was commanded by Capt. Douglass of Bucksport. We have since learned the vessel on that voyage was commanded by Capt. Bennet, the owner, who with his wife was lost. The mate, Ezra Griffin, who was also drowned, belonged to Stockton and left a wife and five children." Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
