Mar 1855 in AL and both his parents were from SC. (This information came from the 1900 census of Indian Territory . . later OK). MY THOMAS d. 26 Feb 1909 in Ardmore, Carter Co. OK when my Mother was 10 years of age. Mom told me the only members of his family she ever knew was JEFFERSON GRIFFIN and his sister ALICE GRIFFIN who was married to BENJAMIN COE. I have researched these cousins extensively and discovered that Alice and Benjamin Coe had no children and as far as I know now, neither did JEFFERSON GRIFFIN . . therefore, like others, I've hit a huge Brick Wall. Since I've never been able to find the family of THOMAS GRIFFIN b. 1855, in any previous census . . I now think it's possible that his parents could have died and he was raised by another family and yes, this idea is only speculation. These are the reasons your message interested me: No. 1 . . . You mentioned the name "Thomas Jefferson GRIFFIN" in the 1860 census. No. 2 . . . ALSO . . part of your message said: "The only issue to be resolved is who raised Millard after his mother died in 1861 and James was off in the war." Please forgive me if this has no reference to your GRIFFIN family but I felt I had to ask. Nell Lewis Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
