Children were 10-15 years old at that time, and there is no mention of their parents. On his WWI emlistment form, Allen listed his parents as Fred Griffin and Annie M. Asgill. Allen was my grandfather, and he mentioned that he was "adopted out" and that his parents were not married. Any info is greatly appreciated! Byron enlisted in the US military in 1870 in West Virginia, left military in 1872 in Texas...can't read name of Fort. (ancestry.com ) I would love to find his descendants. His sister Florence m. Not that I am unappreciative for all your work and making it available to all, but having to look at every message you post for 10 years or so now, I wonder why you don't put a word or words in the "Subject" line that are _ALWAYS" the same so that all of us that get your voluminous emails could just set up a filter to send them straight to the trash bin. That way all new people would find out about your great service but the old timers would not have to rachet up everyone of them. Again, you do good work, but................. Memorial services are 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 2902 Lucas St. Bishop Daniel Laughead will officiate. Burial of the cremains will be at Oak Ridge Cemetery, West Liberty. Memorials may be made to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Mrs. Griffin was born on Sept. 29, 1905, in Atalissa, the daughter of Chester and Myra Ransom Parry. She married Richard Hartung on Sept. 14, 1929. She then married Clarence Carter on Aug. 9, 1959. She later married William Griffin on March 20, 1982. She had worked as a bookkeeper and when living in Long Beach, Calif., she owned a restaurant called the Chat & Nibble. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Pocahontas, and was an accomplished musician and vocalist. Survivors include a son, Ronald Hartung and his wife, Irene, of West Linn, Ore.; four grandchildren, Todd Hartung of West Linn, Rhonda Lowe and Sheryl Hartung, both of Muscatine, and Debra Levonyak of Bellevue, Wash.; 10 great-grandchildren; and three great great-grandchildren.
