We have many questions about this family and are including data from three census reports. There are many names and many changes We are descended from Kattie age 1 in the 1880 census. By 1900 she was a stenographer in Boston and in 1902 our Katherine married Ernest Young. We are particularly interested in names of parents of William S. Griffin as well as his wife Rachel and Asa's wife Rachel G. Any data and leads would be appreciated. The following list is from the 1850 census from Ellsworth, Hancock County, Maine where William and his wife lived with their children. William S Griffin age 32 laborer 200 Catherine Griffin age 12 Rachel Griffin age 29 Sephronia Griffin age 9 Asahel Griffin age 8 (name probably Abnimum) Abby M Griffin age 6 Asa Griffin age 3 Ratchel Griffin 2 months In the 1860 census they were scattered although Sephronia had married Thomas Weaver and Asa was on his own at age 13. Abnimum lived with Asa, his wife and children going from Maine to Nevada to California to Maine Around 1884 they settled in Lincoln Village Penobscot County Maine and remained there . William's widow, Rachel, moved to Nevada, with Sophronia, who was also apparently a widow. Asa's 1880 census is from California Asa T. GRIFFIN 33 ME Hackman ME ME Rachel GRIFFIN 33 ME ME ME Nellie E. I am told that the surname GRIFFIN is as common as SMITH in Queen's County (or Laois County as it is known today) and it's likely going to be hard tracking down this particular family in Ireland.
