    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: foxfndr Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.griffin/2454.1.2/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I'm very intrigued by one thing in your post. Nelson's marriage in Jefferson Co., Tn. in 1823. Tennessee was the gateway to the west from North Carolina. Most families in this time period can be traced from N.C. into Washington & Greene Counties of Tennessee then farther west as land opened up. There were 3 main travel stops with population growth during the late 1700's in Tennessee. Greeneville being first, then Dandridge (Jefferson County), then Knoxville. The actual migration route pretty much followed the interstate route of today. There was a Griffin clan in Jefferson Co. & neighboring Grainger Co. early on. This Griffin family comes from North Carolina also. There appears to be the Jefferson Co. clan founded by William Griffin b. 1760-1770 and the Grainger Co. clan founded by Jacob Griffin b. 1770-1780. We do not know for sure where all the sons fall into the division between William and Jacob at this time, but we do know their names: Noah, John, James, Edom, Stephen, ! Thomas, Nathan, Sanders,Madison, Abner & Jacob. With your Nelson marrying in Jefferson Co. and being born in 1794, he could fall into the category of another son of William or Jacob. Would love to share some info! Todd Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Kate's Brother Martin was my Gt Gt Grandfather. I have the descendents from there, fairly extensively. Yes it is the story of Poor Kate chased over the Falls in Ennistymon by Michael in a drunken state. They are just slabs of stone and a kid could play on them - EXCEPT they go into to a real rush after rainfall. I have a few great stories. The Pub is almost certainly James Griffin's - the original being Kate's Brother - still there now and in the control of Matthew. Patsy had a sister Mary who died in Nickerson Kansas, but her daughter came home and married Kennealy and her Grandson Myles Staunton became and Irish Member of Parliament (TD). I believe Michael Carrigg married "the help" Mary McGuire and reformed himself and together they made good parents to his 7 and their 5 children. email me on kpm2@bigfoot.com Kevin Murphy Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 1. [GRIFFIN] Griff DNA Project now at 200 members - need more tested and lineages recorded
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: magrif Surnames: Griffith Griffin Griffiths Griffis Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.griffin/6774/mb.ashx Message Board Post: To all "Grif." DNA project participants: We now have 200 participants in the "Y" Chromosome DNA project for Griffith, Griffin, Griffis and all other spelling variants of our surname. We're writing to remind everyone involved that over half of the project participants have not provided their lineages (pedigree) for inclusion on the project website. The study is much more worthwhile if the DNA can be compared and linked to a known lineage, so the DNA comparison can make sense and in hopes of finding where DNA matches actually connect with other cousins. That seems to us to be the main reason to do the DNA study. We strongly encourage those of you who have not submitted lineages to do so. Whatever method you use to record your ancestry information is fine. Our project team can format it properly for publication on the website. Also, remember that there are photo and research sections on our project website and that you are encouraged to upload old photos and research materials related to your ancestors. Project Link: http://www.griffith.dna.rdgriffith.com/ Thanks for your on-going support for the project.
