    3. I do not have much information regarding the Griffins. The only reference I have is that of a Hannah Griffin born 17 December 1642 in Newport, Newport, RI, died 1745 in East Greenwich, Kent, Rhode Island. She purported was married to Thomas Nichols, Sr. I have very little information and if anyone has additional information, I would love to hear from you. Also I was told that she was a Quaker. Does anyone know if there is a rootsweb site for Quakers? I can be reached at PMJNichols@verizon.net. gc-gateway@rootsweb.com wrote: > This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. > > Author: marjoriedehn65 > Surnames: Griffin > Classification: queries > > Message Board URL: > > http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.griffin/6700.1/mb.ashx > > Message Board Post: > > I also am decended from John Griffin, also from East Granby, I need to know dates, marriages, etc., to see if this is the correct Griffin line. > > Marge Dehn > email dortyd@peaknet.net > > Important Note: > The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 3. For some reason, I am unable to get to your survey, so I'm going to answer based on the results so far.   Migration route:  Cherokee County, North Carolina, Alabama, Arkansas, Texas, Arizona, California.  My great great grandfather, Rufus Marion Griffin, started out in NC and ended up being buried in San Diego, CA.   No oral history of being Native American that I am aware of.   Race:  Caucasian   Wales   I've been researching at least 10 years.   No, unfortunately, I am not aware of any male Griffins in our family, though there may be some out there.  So, no one is participating in DNA testing.   Griffin is the only spelling that I'm aware of.   I don't know their religious denomination, though my great grandmother, Martha Jane Griffin Crow, was a very active Jehovah's Witness in Yuma, Arizona.   No one ever described my Griffins as Black Irish, etc.   I am very interested in your survey.  I'm curious if anyone else will have the same migration pattern as my Griffins.  My brick wall is my great great great grandfather, William C. (I think that was his middle initial) Griffin.  I've been told he married Tabitha or Telitha Wiggins.  He was born in North Carolina in approximately 1813.  I have been unable to go back any further than him. --- On Tue, 8/24/10, gc-gateway@rootsweb.com <gc-gateway@rootsweb.com> wrote: From: gc-gateway@rootsweb.com <gc-gateway@rootsweb.com> Subject: [GRIFFIN] Griffin Survey Results - So Far To: GRIFFIN-L@rootsweb.com Date: Tuesday, August 24, 2010, 12:50 AM This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Your clan do connect with my Middlebrooks of GA from NC. Aquilla Cheney/Chaney of NJ and to VA who fought in Rev. War. I noted in your sketch that the Griffins moved to Rockwall Co., TX right where my George Wilkerson Middlebrooks (great grfather) moved to from Lee Co., MS (Saltillo and Tupelo)in 1892. He farmed for a short time then homesteaded in Hunt Co.,TX at Lester Community on the Commerce/Ladonia, TX Hwy. (rt. 50). He and spouse, Mary Ann Eliz. Garner Middlebrooks are buried at Ladonia Prebyterian Church Cem. at Ladonia, TX. Their dau., Molly, is buried next to them. My grandparents met and married in Ladonia, TX and farmed in that area of Hunt/Fannin for a time till about 1927 then moved off to Ranger,TX. They spent 50 yrs. till their deaths residing in Houston, TX. Manes/Maness is a surname that ties into the Garners of NC (Moore Co.) and to the Ritter, Spinks, Richardsons also.
