Hi, Ruby. Thanks for taking time to share your info. At this point, I'm desperate and just entering in GRIFFIN families known to be in the area so yes, yours helps. Can you tell me what other surnames might have mixed with your GRIFFINS? Have any of these names mixed with your line? Researching ALDRIDGE, BURLESON, CALHOUN, CALLOWAY, CASSETTE, CUTHBERTSON, DANIELS, GRIFFIN, HUGHES, JOHNSON, MARKES, MCKINNEY, VANCE Also, can you remind me where Jefferson Co. and Cocke Co, TN are? Are those around Elizabethton and Bristol? Tamara G. Hi, Gail. I have very limited dates for these GRIFFINS. Looking for my great grandfather, Lee / Lae GRIFFIN 1865-1870 NC and died 1911. By 1903, I believe he met my great grandmother , Minerva Jane ALDRIDGE, in CO while her family was traveling (probably looking for gold). They married and had 5 children: Twins, Della Mildred GRIFFIN and Florence Hildred GRIFFIN (my grandmother) 1903 Estella GRIFFIN 1907 Anna Lee GRIFFIN 1909 Pauline GRIFFIN 1912 All of these children were born in Mitchell / Avery Co. (western) NC where many of their descendants still reside. On 21 May 1910, the US Federal Census finds Lee and his family in Linville, Mitchell Co. (also western NC), NC. I believe he died a year or so later. The story is that Lee owned several logging camps in VA and would travel back and forth between them and his home in western NC. Apparently, the family story is that he died from pneumonia while at one of his logging camps. However, someone just passed on conflicting info that he died back in Linville, NC. This Lee GRIFFIN was known to have a brother called Fate GRIFFIN (This could be a nickname for Frank, LaFayette, or something else). Fate and his wife (name / dates unknown) came back to Avery Co., NC to visit family after Lee died. As you can see, I still have considerable info to verify. Got any leads? Tamara, Maybe we can help one another! My great great grandfather came from Cherokee County, NC which is in the western portion of the state. His name was Rufus Marion Griffin and he was born in 1844. His father's name was William C. Griffin and his mother's name was Tabitha/Telitha Wiggins. The family was in Randolph Co., Alabama by 1860. I have no other information about William C. Griffin. The names you mentioned don't ring a bell with me, but if you could tie them to Cherokee County, then maybe we could find some relationship. Lee / Lae GRIFFIN was born 27 Mar 1870 in NC. Lee and his brother, Fate GRIFFIN, travelled back and forth from Avery Co., NC to western VA to work in the logging camps that Lee owned. Lee died 30 Mar 1911 in VA at one of the logging camps that he owned. His brother, Fate was known to be married and returned to visit in Avery Co., NC after Lee died in 1011. I do not know the name of his parents, his wife, or if he had children. I wonder if Fate might be short for Lafayette. Lee GRIFFIN married MINERVA JANE ALDRIDGE in Denver, CO.
