No, Steve, I don't know where my Griffins emigrated from. I've read that the Griffin name is Welsh, but I haven't been able to go back any further than my great great great grandfather, William C. Griffin. He was born in North Carolina--I don't where in NC. My great great grandfather, Rufus Marion Griffin, was born in Cherokee Co., NC (this information came from my grandmother). Friends I hope that I am doing the proper thing by writing to you. If I am not supposed to communicate directly, please guide me in the proper way of making inquiries. I am a relative new member of Ancestry. I am searching for a Griffin fellow whose first name I do not know. If I am correct, he had a family with him on a farm in Garrard County in KY.in the late 1800's. My great Aunt Sophie Owens informed the Cowan and the Floyd families, descendants, in a Floyd-Cowan Family Reunion about 45 years ago that a Mr. _________Griffin, a farmer in that area, slept with a Native American lass ( I believe she was an employee nanny, helper who live with the family) named Clarissa and from that union came Fannie our great grandmother. To help further, when Fannie became of age Mr. ________ Griffin gave her hand to a Negro man named Wallace Cowan. About two years later Mr.________Griffin became unhappy with Wallace's treatment of Fannie. He separated them and gave her hand to Aaron Floyd in (May 15th) 1869 in Boyle, Lincoln, or Garrard County. Aaron was born, we believe, in 1839 -1840. Fannie and Aaron were about the same age but we are not sure where she was born,..possibly Boyle, Pulaski or Garrard Counties, KY. Among the uncertainties we have; ~first what was Mr. ____Griffin's (or was it Griffith) first name ? ~did he have a farm in Boyle or Garrard,..or both ad in what years...........? ~ what was his wife's name,..(Sarah ?) and what were the children's names....? ~ was he in the military in the war between States.....? Rank ? ~ did Aaron work on his farm,..or on the Davis Floyd's farm nearby ? We have a hundred more questions. We are open,..even eager, to respond to questions you may have. Does the information I have shared, help you in some manner. I hope we can connect with good results for us both. V. I agree, with Theresa, Robert does a wonderful job keeping all THE Griffi(th)(n)(s)(ng) Surname PROJECT records. I really urge everyone whose name is included above to join this group. Maybe get some cousins together and donate to the cause. I've been searching since 1983 and with the Y-DNA tests, I now have 5/6 others that appear to be same line. Some day it will all come together. I has been well worth the money spent. I have very limited dates for these GRIFFINS. Looking for my great grandfather, Lee / Lae GRIFFIN 1865-1870 NC and died 1911. By 1903, I believe he met my great grandmother , Minerva Jane ALDRIDGE, in CO while her family was traveling (probably looking for gold). They married and had 5 children: Twins, Della Mildred GRIFFIN and Florence Hildred GRIFFIN (my grandmother) 1903 Estella GRIFFIN 1907 Anna Lee GRIFFIN 1909 Pauline GRIFFIN 1912 All of these children were born in Mitchell / Avery Co. (western) NC where many of their descendants still reside. On 21 May 1910, the US Federal Census finds Lee and his family in Linville, Mitchell Co. (also western NC), NC. I believe he died a year or so later. The story is that Lee owned several logging camps in VA and would travel back and forth between them and his home in western NC. Apparently, the family story is that he died from pneumonia while at one of his logging camps. However, someone just passed on conflicting info that he died back in Linville, NC. This Lee GRIFFIN was known to have a brother called Fate GRIFFIN (This could be a nickname for Frank, LaFayette, or something else). Fate and his wife (name / dates unknown) came back to Avery Co., NC to visit family after Lee died. As you can see, I still have considerable info to verify. Got any leads? I don't know the connection yet, but it seems to me that there is a connection. I have also found 2 additional children, George and Geo A; but I have also found that dates very from census to census, which is very confusing. Father's birthplace is correct and same wife's and children's names. It will take more time to sort this family out, I guess. For starters I guess I can share names and dates: Abraham === 1805, Nova Scotia, Canada 1894, Howard, Cresco, Iowa Wife: Eliza Young === 1805 Children: Hiram ==== May 4, 1830, Middlesex, Ontario, Canada Catherine ==== 1834 George ==== David === 1836 Sarah === 1838 Hannah === 1841-1935 Jane === 1847 Alice === 1849 Henry === 1849 That's what I have, and as of right now I do not have any confirmation on this info -- I am however working on it. And your Abraham's wife being Eliza makes me wonder - could my Acril/? be a miss interpretation. My G-G-Grandmother was a Frances Griffin, she married James A Stoker and later ended in Woodruff Co AR. I only find her family in a 1850 Red Hill NC census during that gold rush and it lists those below. Does anyone of you know anything about this family? Thanks, Bob Acril/? Tamara, I am also researching the Calhoun's and the Griffin's. I have two different families of Griffin. On my daddy's side and also on my mother's side. No connection that I am aware of. Daddy's is from Kentucky and Tennessee area and mothers were from Alabama moved to Arkansas. My dad's sister married a McKinney and I have several McKinney cousins. I am wondering if there are any connections.
