Author: tdouble22 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.griffin/6413.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Some additional information (and I'm reaching here)... The original post shows William Griffin (b. 1836 Virginia - d. before 1910 in Mississippi). So I searched for the Census Records closest to his birth - 1840. There was one record that had a free Black family. The Head of the household was John W. Griffin (b. 1793) who married Eliza F. ? (b. 1797). So I looked through his Census Records and found one with names of other siblings. If anyone has a John B. (b. 1830), Mary T. (b. 1838), or Samuel W. Griffin (b. 1825), please reply with any additional information. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: cat2397 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.griffin/6416/mb.ashx Message Board Post: My husband's great=grandmother was Nellie Morris. I believe Nellie's mother was named Letitia, and she married Aaron Morris 11-24-1892 in Clay Co., KY. In the marriage records I looked at from Ancestry.com, Letitia's maiden name is listed as BUNDY, and that's what really throws me off. In the 1900 census, Nellie is listed in the household of Abraham Griffen and is listed as a niece, her mother is not listed. Aaron died in 1899. I can't figure how Nellie is a niece to Abraham. Can anyone help me? Thanks! Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. My GGgrandmother, Angelia Griffin, is, I believe a daugther to Joshua and Maria. I have next to nothing on this branch of my family tree, but would be most interested in learning more. I live in Ontario, and finding much on this family has been very difficult as my only resource is ancestry.com. I don't drive, and therefore am not able to travel far to do research. I have located some information re: census records, but have no exact birth or death information for my GGGrandmother. I do hope you will contact me, either here or personally. You can reach me at: lisahaas2001@yahoo.ca Hope to hear from you soon Lisa Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I do recall now that 3 sisters married 3 brothers. You know I recall your mother very well too...and our visits to your house. I'm 61 now....and if I'm correct didn't you have a sister who is closer to my age?? My database with all my info is in AR (put a home on that property after mom died in 2003). So I try to recall from my memory our common history. You know I was closer with my dad's family in AR, given our going there every year as I was growing up. But, I do recall visits to your home, and I think we had a visit from you Aunt (Annie), Aunt(s) and their families.s As you explained things it came back to me. You know as I got older I always wondered why no stories were ever passed down about their lives in England (Mary Ellen and Joseph), even if she had been disowned you would think we would have talked about them. Now I know why. I think the reality was very different than the stories we were told. You know they came from Sandbach, in Cheshire (they have shires like we have counties). I thought that they're going to Kansas (Sterling to be exact) after they came into Chicago might have been on a land grant that the railroad advertised over in other countries to help populate that area out west. Did you know that they bought land in AL and that during the depression my Grandmother Edith and Grandfather George went to farm it to make money and that's how mom ended up down there. That's where my mom met my dad....he was an officer out of Pensacola Air Base when she was teaching school in Foley. I've wanted to go back down there and find the house I grew up in the first 6 years of my life. Email me directly at jesrountree@hotmail.com, if you'd like. jes Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I am so happy to hear from you! I have wondered about your mother. I thought she was so beautiful! You may not remember me, I am Aleeta. My mother, Violetta, sister and I visited you in Brookfield. You know much more than I know about our greatgrand-parents. My grandmother was Tekla, she was Percy's wife. There were three Goranson sisters that married three Griffin brothers. (Arthur Griffin/Anna Goranson) She became a widow at a very young age, and raised six children. I believe she is the one you mention in your note. My Grandparents, Percy and Tekla, lived in Saugatuck, Michigan. Charles Griffin and Edith Goranson lived on the East Side of Chicago. I am sorry for rambled but, I was so excited to see that there was another person looking for Nield/Griffin. Please keep in touch.
