Hello Cousin David ! {:-) Welcome to the GRIEST Family Search. You can find a little info at my site: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~paroth And the others on the GRIEST query board and list have much more info on other branches. You can use the blue search bar on the query board : http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/surnames/gri/Griest - Put "Margaret GHRIEST" in the "Keyword" box, set the "Period" for "Several Eons" and click on "Global Search". That will bring up another page. This is to refine your search terms. Check out all boxes to see the different search patterns available Enter the spelling of GHRIEST in the surname bar, set it for "Board" in the appropriate box...those are the only two boxes you really need to change...and that should pull up EVERY query from every GenConnect board that has that name mentioned. Be prepared to spend some time...you may be surprised at the # of queries that have been posted. If you have any trouble, let me know. The surname has been spelled: GREIST(E) - GRIEST - GHRIST - GRIST - now GHRIEST so far. My 2gr-grandmother's surname was spelled GRIST on her marriage cert. and the spelling of her branch of the family is GRIEST. It all depends on how much education the clerks (who recorded these things) had. My Original GRIESTE Patriarch came from Wales with 10 sons, some of whom married Dutch women before leaving for America. So the Search can get a bit convoluted ! I think you'll find some very helpful folks "on board the (Rootsweb/GenConnect) GRIEST(et al) Train" {:-) Regards, Paul A. I have no information on the GRIESTs you mention. Can you give some dates for your GRIESTs? The early GRIESTs I have are mostly in PA. (1700s-1800s) though I have some lines that went to Trumble Co. OH., Montgomery Co. IN., Darlington IN., Boise, ID. I also have many GRIESTs with no spouses or locations...but no WOODS marriages. I am trying to obtain information about my great Grandparents. My Grandfather George Edward Grist was born December 18 1894 in Midsummer Norton in Somerset. His parents were Joseph Grist and Emma Robbins formerly Steed and that is the only details that we have.Other than that he was a coalminer.

Who were Norma, Clifford & Wilbur. I think Norma was my grandmother, but remarried to a Edward Wood, Corp of Engineers, San Antonio, TX. Wilbur (my father) kept the Griest name, Clifford took the Wood name. I'm trying to find out Norma's maiden name, may have been Murphy.
Okay, from the context of the query "My ancestor wasachel Grist" it appears he might mean "Rachel". I checked my copy of "The Griest Family". There are no Rachels listed before 1835. Also checked for "Jolly" but there were none. I'm not sure if this got to the list...just checking...{:-) From Ralph Bishak: My ancestor wasachel Grist whose family was killed in an indian attack near Triadelphia, West Virginia in 1777. She survived, although scalped, and eventually married revolutionary war veteran Henry Jolly and had 4 children. Can you provide info. on this Grist family branch? Ralph Bischak rbischak@home.com
Hi Ralph, "Wasachel Grist" is an unsual name (to me anyway). I haven't seen him in my wanderings, but possibly someone who has the "GRIEST Family" book might know about him. Can anyone on this list help Ralph? Regards, Paul (List Host)

I am searching for my GGGrandmother, Mariah GRIEST. She was born in 1807, I assume in PA, as she married there and had a family in Tyrone Township, Adams Co. Her husband was John B. SMITH, who was born in 1780 and died in 1840. After John's death, Mariah is listed in the 1850 and 1860 census as living with an Ann Griest in Tyrone Township. Ann's age at the time of the census would have her as being born in either 1799 or 1780. I found an Ann who was born a GRIEST and whose birth year matches this. Possibly she was an aunt. Or perhaps there was an Ann who married into the family and coincidentally had the same birth year as the Ann I found. I have researched "The Griest Family" and one other publication regarding the McMillan/Griest families to try and find Mariah, but to no avail. Can anyone out there help me? Thanks
Hi all! Several of you have asked about these Gentleman. This info was given to me by a Brent researcher (since deceased) about 20 yrs ago. John Griest m. John Griest m Martha Baldwin 2 Aug 1694, George was appointed by the Chester co. court to be one of 12 land appraisers. 11 Jun 1695, George purchased 100 acres in Bethel twp.
