OK, I'll hop in here..... I descend from Mary Jane Green Lovelace, the daughter of Robert "Robbin" and Mary Bridges Green of Rutherford Co. I have in my stack of "to-do's" (which spans many years of emails) information on Robert's parents. But that's not the family I'm asking about today. Read on.... In the 1850 Rutherford Co. census, in Sandy Run, in the midst of a whole bunch of Green families, you will find the family of Nancy Lovelace with several children (ages in parentheses) Dw#1298: Thos. Green (40), wife Margarett, children Narcissa (13), Elizabeth, Sarah, George, David, Mary, Rebecca (1) Dw#1299: ***Lewis Green (50), wife Lucy (41), children Elizabeth (18), Nancy, Sarah, Mary (12), and a laborer named William Green, age 22. Dw#1300: ***Nancy Lovelace (60) with children and/or grandchildren William (16), Daniel (17), Rebeca (15), Elizabeth *Green* (26), Louisa *Green* (18), Benjamin Lovelace (14), Mary *Green* (5) Dw#1302: William Green (61), Nana (90), Malinda (27), Elizabeth (6), Nana (3), Catherine (1), Isaac (68) Dw#1303: Thomas Green (55), wife Nancy (53), children James (21), Eda, Nancy, Thomas, Mary, Elizabeth, William, John (5) Dw#1304: William Lovelace (35; my gggrandfather, possibly son of Nancy above), wife Cyntha (Hollifield), children Malinda (10), George (my ggrandfather), Morgan, Samuel (1) Dw#1306: Robert Green (39, my gggrandfather), wife Mary (Bridges), children Samuel (14), William (who married Malinda Lovelace above), Mary (my ggrandmother, married George Lovelace above), Noah (3) Dw#1308: Nancy Green (65), Elizabeth (45), Nancy (43), Martha (42), Lavina (41), Harriett (37), Sarah (15) Dw#1309: Michal Green (21), Cassa (21), Nancy (6/12) Dw#1310: Stephen Green (35), wife Juda (34), children William (13), Joseph, Martha, Elizabeth, Drury, Abram, George (6/12) Dw#1311: John Green (53), wife Aletha (47), children Unicia (24), Willis, Alancon, John, Drury, Zachariah, Lethan (a girl), Loyde (4) Dw#1323: Nancy Green (57), [probably] children John (22), Elizabeth, Joseph, George, Alford, James, Whitten, Francis, Larkin (12) Dw#1324: James Lovelace (31; possibly a son of Nancy Lovelace listed above), wife Sarah (Tesseneer), son Lewis (2; full name *Lewis Green* Lovelace) Other families interspersed in these listings are also families mentioned in the minute books of Walls Baptist Church. Those minute books also make mention of a woman, later identified as Lucy Green, who was received into the fellowship at Walls after being kicked out of Sandy Run Baptist Church in Cleveland Co. for "marrying her uncle". All this has gotten me to thinking that the Lucy Green mentioned in the Walls Church minutes is the wife of Lewis Green above. [CAUTION: MUCH SPECULATION FOLLOWS!!!] Now it is also possible that Lucy Green is the eldest daughter of Benjamin and Nancy Lovelace. I have evidence that leads me to believe that Nancy Lovelace, listed in the census above, is the widow of Benjamin Lovelace. If all assumptions are true, then Lucy could be their daughter who married her uncle (Lewis Green) and was booted out of Sandy Run, and later agreed to leave Walls Church. This would mean that Nancy Lovelace was the sister of Lewis Green. Lewis Green is mentioned several times in the Walls Church records, not as a member but as "a friend". Again, if assumptions are correct, Lucy was named after her paternal grandmother Lucy Watson Lovelace Cantrell from Maryland. Note also that James Lovelace, a possible son of Nancy, named his firstborn child Lewis Green Lovelace. Several marriage bonds of these Lovelace men (William to Cyntha Hollifield, James to Sarah Tesseneer, and others that I can't recall off the top of my head) were posted by Lewis Green. So, my question to you Green researchers looking in western NC: Can any of you piece those listed Green families together for me? Given their proximity to each other, you would think that they are related, and the ages of the older ones (including Lewis and Nancy, assuming she was a Green before marriage), lead one to believe that they may be siblings. So does anyone have a family of Greens who came into western North Carolina which included the children Lewis, Nancy, Thomas, William, John, and/or any combination? I know these Greens in Rutherford Co. have been driving people crazy for many years. I'm just hoping that with these few new possible relationships, something might click. I'm also hoping to come up with definitive proof that there was a marriage between a Benjamin Lovelace and a Nancy, be she a Green or from another family. It's just that I see a lot of evidence pointing to her being a Green. Comments? Questions? Spitballs? Catcalls? I'm ready for anything... :-) Thanks in advance for anything.....
