It lists all his descendants, and I thought it might lend some clues for others on this list because of the many surnames and many locations of these descendants: It is, unfortunately, not dated, for some odd reason, but clearly the petition was brought to the court some time after Hiram Green's death in 1876 TO THE SURROGATE of the COUNTY OF CATTARAUGUS: The petition of Nelson H. Knight, Daniel G. Knight, Newton O. Knight, severally of the Town of Freedom, in the County of Cattaraugus and Charles Jay Cagwin of the Town of Yorkshire in said County, and James Beardsley of the Town of Machias in said County, respectfully shows to this Court: That Hiram Green, late of the Town of Freedom in said County, died in said Town of Freedom on or about the 9th day of July in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and seventy six. That at the time of his death he was an inhabitant of the county of Cattaraugus; that he died leaving a last will and Testament, which was duly proved and admitted to probate by the Surrogate of the County of Cattaraugus on the day of ________ (blank), in the Year of our Lord, one thousand eight hundred and seventy six, and by which said last Will and Testament, the said deceased nominated and appointed Daniel Brown of the Town of Freedom in said County and Eliza Green, Executors thereof. That said Executors, have since died. That the said deceased bequeathed to his widow the interest and income of all his personal property and the use, rents and profits and income of all his real estate, except certain lands devised to James Green for and during the term of her natural life in and by his said last Will and Testament, and after the death of his said widow, bequeathed all his personal property, and devised all the real property whereof he died seized, excepting such real property devised to James Green, remaining after the death of his said widow, to his heirs at law and next of kin. That his said widow has since died, and that the following are the next of kin and heirs at law of said deceased with their ages, places of residence and relationships to said deceased, excepting said James Green who resides in Freedom in said County, and who is a son of said deceased, but said James Green is excepted from said residuary clause and is not and receives nothing under said residuary clause of said Will.
