According to her death certificate, which I obtained from Carbondale Historical Society, she was 42 years old. My grandfather, her youngest child, was 3 or 4 at the time of her death. Only clues we have to her origin are her wedding certificate (Monroe Works, NY) and her place of birth on death certificate (Bergen Co., NJ). We have it that there was a lot of interchange between Orange Co., NY, and Bergen Co., NJ, due to railroading. Charles Helms was a railroad foreman. I thought perhaps Adelia's family may have even moved from NJ to NY. One researcher mentioned that most marriages during this time period took place in the home of the bride. Thanks for all the wonderful responses to my request for help. --part0_909941094_boundary Content-ID: <0_909941094@inet_out.mail.interaccess.com.2> Content-type: message/rfc822 Content-transfer-encoding: 7bit Content-disposition: inline Return-Path: <lgg@interaccess.com> Received: from relay07.mx.aol.com (relay07.mail.aol.com [172.31.109.7]) by air07.mail.aol.com (v51.9) with SMTP; Sun, 01 Nov 1998 11:05:16 -0500 Received: from hawk.prod.itd.earthlink.net (hawk.prod.itd.earthlink.net [207.217.120.22]) by relay07.mx.aol.com (8.8.8/8.8.5/AOL-4.0.0) with ESMTP id LAA29225 for <AnnieB201@aol.com>; Sun, 1 Nov 1998 11:05:15 -0500 (EST) Received: from lggreene.earthlink.net (1Cust80.tnt2.sdg1.da.uu.net [208.250.122.80]) by hawk.prod.itd.earthlink.net (8.8.7/8.8.5) with SMTP id IAA02395; Sun, 1 Nov 1998 08:05:13 -0800 (PST) Message-Id: <3.0.5.32.19981101080656.00904df0@pop.interaccess.com> X-Sender: lgg@pop.interaccess.com X-Mailer: QUALCOMM Windows Eudora Pro Version 3.0.5 (32) Date: Sun, 01 Nov 1998 08:06:56 -0800 To: AnnieB201@aol.com, GREEN-L@rootsweb.com From: Laura Greene <lgg@interaccess.com> Subject: Yankee Greenes In-Reply-To: <ed05dac8.363c6562@aol.com> Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII Content-transfer-encoding: 7bit At 08:42 AM 11/1/98 EST, AnnieB201@aol.com wrote: => >I had to send this out to see if I can find any Greens researching the >vicinity of the Hudson for the 1800's. Tons of us! We are just quiet from being worn out trying to find our Green/es.....grin grin. I am "collecting" New York Greenes, and will let you know if I run across your Adelia. Have you tried to get a death certificate from NY for Adelia Green Helms? If she died after 1880, when NY required records, you might be able to get a certificate from the town where she died (if you know it ) which may identify her parents. (I typically call the town clerk instead of writing to NY State Archives and usually get what I need much faster). Good luck to you.....
