He was born in Rocky Creek, S.C.---does not give date. 2. When he was small child his family moved to Tryon County, NC. 3. When he was about 16 he went to South Carolina and enlisted at Cherokee Ponds, SC, June or July 1781. 4. He was engaged in "harassing the tories" for 12 months. 5. After the Revolution he went to Rutherford County (formerly part of old Tryon County, NC) where he married---no details about marriage. 6. He was allowed a pension on his application executed 28 October 1832, while living in Burke County, NC; he was age 70. 7. He died 2 June 1853 in Madison County, NC, leaving no widow, but there were five children surviving in 1856. 8. In 1856 John"s son, James, wrote applying for an increase in the pension allowed his survivors. James lists the children living as; Joseph, James, Arthur, Aaron and Izabella. 9. Additional information in John's pension file is a letter from a Miss Huston of North Carolina, asking for information on a John Moccsin Green whose children were Shadric, James, Joseph, Aaron, Arthur and two daughters, both named Isabella, one dead. Miss Huston said John Green's wife was Elizabeth Jones. ______________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________ In the 1840 census of Yancey County, John Green is living in the house of James Buchanan. (Yancey County formed in 1833 from Burke) A Burke County marriage bond 21 September 1822 for Isbel Green and James Buchanan, with bondsmen Jos Buchanan and William Buchanan. A Burke County marriage bond 18 September 1831 for Aaron Green and Pheby McKinney, with bondsman Elijah Green and witness D.D. Elizabeth 2. James 3. Anna 4. John 5. Nancy 6. Isabella 7. Joseph 2 Feb 1829---20 Apr 1884 Married Nancy Canada 10 Jun 1824---19 Dec 1864 8. William 9. Aaron 10. Stephen 22 Mar 1838---9 Feb 1924 11. Mary 12. Athen Children of Arthur Green born @1798 and his Wife Nancy Sparks born 1 Feb 1802-- 1. Isabella 2. Jane 3. Thomas 4. Mary 5. John 6. Elizabeth 7. Sarah 8. Jeremiah 31 Dec 1833---27 Nov 1904 9. Martha 10. Joseph 11. James 12. Lucendia 13. Stephen 14. Samuel The Jeremiah (#8) above was a lawyer in Bakersville, NC and is the one G. W. Greene refers to as J. H. Greene, the Grandson of John Moccasin Greene. I think how G. W and J. H Greene got acquainted was through Elizabeth Greene Stafford, wife of William Stafford, who was a teacher in Bakersville. Elizabeth was the daughter of Robert and Chaney Elrod Greene and a cousin of George W. Greene. G. W. and J. H Greene must have thought that there was only on John Green. ______________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________ On your list of Children of John Green and Elizabeth Coffey--- I do not think Jesse Green who's wife was Mourning______was a son of John and Elizabeth Green. On Cherokee County census Jesse is shown as being born in some other county than Burke. There seems to be a son of John that I have not been able to identify. Eleanor married Isaac Moody and moved to Cherokee County. I think John, son of Richard, is the " John Moccasin Green", because just recently I found a Caldwell County Deed where one of Elijah' grandsons was selling some land in the Globe area and the deed refers to "Grandaddy Moccasin Creek". I took the "Grandaddy Moccasin" to mean a person rather than a big snake. (I can't find my copy of the deed now, but will give more on it when I find my copy.) I hope this does not create more problems than it solves. Ed --part0_916618652_boundary--
