    1. [GREEN-L] Re: Green / Norton Family Connection?
    2. In a message dated 99-02-01 01:20:19 EST, you write: << Where is the Norton Estate? I know the Nortons are related into Norton, Kent somehow but have not been able to check this. I believe their may be a connection with the Parrs and Henry the VIII giving Thomas Norton alias Green so many parish church lands. Sir John Norton of Northwood had an affair with a Green and thats where the search must go I guess . If you know of anything or learn anything please let me know. The Greens must have been a good family for Sir John to meet the Green women and then recognize her son who was born out of wedlock. Sincerely Chip Greene . >> Hi Chip, You have a lot of interesting information, and I would like to explore any possible connection to the early Greene family in England. Sir Henry Greene was the Lord Chief Justice of England and one of the largest land owners of his time. He was married to Lady Catherine de Drayton, who could trace her ancestors back to Charlemagne. It was this Sir Henry Greene that purchased the Norton estate in about 1352. The Norton estate is listed in the Doomsday book in 1086 as being located in Northamptonshire, in the Foxley hundreds (district) near Oxfordshire. I don't know if this is the same estate or not, as the one purchased by Sir Henry Greene. This is the family that Maud Greene descended from who was the mother of Catherine Parr, the sixth wife of King Henry VIII. From your comments it would appear there may be some connction somewhere. There is a problem in identifying the father of Sir Henry Greene, in that his father apparently changed his name from Sir Thomas de Broughton to Sir Thomas de Greene, and no one know why, or if this is correct. What is your throry on which Green that Sir John Norton had an affair with? Do you know the time frame of this affair? Tom Green
