    1. [GREEN-L] Captain John Green of the Penn. State Navy.
    2. Hi Group, I recently found information about a Capt. John Green who was commissioned in the Pennsylvania State Navy October 10, 1776 and commanded the ship, "Nesbitt". He was later commissioned into the Continental Navy and was captured by the British and imprisoned in the Mill Prison near Plymouth, England in 1779. Capt. John Green had married, in June 1763, Alice Kollack the daughter of Lt. Jacob Kollack, and Alice converted all her jewelry and other belongings into GOLD and somehow managed to get the gold to her captive husband, who apparently bribed his way out of prison, and escaped to France, and later returned to the "Colonies" and was given command of another ship named "Duc du Lausan, which carried GOLD to pay the troops in America. Capt. John Green also reportedly gave his crew on the Nesbitt gold to aleviate their suffering, so it appears that AliceKollack Green had considerable GOLD! Does anyone know who this couple was and what Green family did Capt. John Green belong? One last item about Capt. John Green is that he and Capt. John Barry were sailing from Cuba in 1783 when they encountered the British fleet, and the last naval shots of the American Revolution were fired in this encounter between Fort Lauderdale and Cape Canaveral, Florida. Capt. John Green and his crew escaped the superior British fleet, and Capt. Green became a charter member of the Society of Cincinnati. In February of 1784, Capt. John Green sailed to the Orient and carried the American Flag into Chinese waters for the first time. I love history and especilly Naval history as I served as a Lt. in the US Navy in the 1960's. There has got to be a GREAT story about this couple! I would appreciate any information anyone might have about this family! Happy New Year! Tom Green TBGreen3@aol.com
