    1. Re: [GREEN-L] NJ, VA & NC
    2. Hi Linda, I believe you have several Green families mixed together. I descend from William Green, born February 6, 1762 in Prince Edward County, Virginia, who moved to Orange County, North Carolina where he joined the Hillsborough Militia in about 1779. He married Kezziah Patton there January 9, 1781 and their first son was Thomas S. Green born October 24, 1781. This family moved to Burke County, NC about 1783 where most of their children were born. In about 1817 some of the family moved to Haywood County, NC where William Green died March 2, 1837. For many years various cousins attempted to connect our Greens with the New Jersey Greens that came to the Yadkin River. This was the Jeremiah Green family, but I have not been able to find any connection to this family. I will add my comments to your message below regarding the Greens you have posted. Tom Green In a message dated 98-10-06 09:55:57 EDT, you write: << Tom, I have noticed that you seem to be quite knowledgeable of many of the Green lines, and for this reason I am writing to see if you have any info on my Green grandfathers who moved to NC reportedly from NJ. This is the info I currently have: Generation 1 WILLIAM GREEN: Before Rev. War moved from NJ to the "Jersey settlement" located on the eastern bank of the YADKIN RIVER in DAVIDSON CO., NC. (I don't think this statement is correct. I believe it was Jeremiah Green who followed this migration pattern.) Generation 2 Son of William Green: THOMAS GREEN b. abt 1758, d 7/29/1828 ROWAN CO. Thomas initially settled in BURKE CO., NC (This may be my William Green and his son Thomas.) Generation 3 Children of Thomas Green: JOHN GREEN b 1785 m MARTHA HEMPHILL (This may be a son of my William Green.) JAMES GREEN b abt 1795 BURKE CO., NC m MAHALA ? THOMAS GREEN b abt 1800 m MARGARET GADDES 1836 GEORGE W. GREEN b abt 1803 m NANCY GASPHSON (I believe these three Greens are from another family.) SILAS GREEN b abt 1806 m LUCY ? ANDERSON GREEN ELIZABETH GREEN MARTHA GREEN m PACK? TILMON GREEN WILLIAM GREEN (I believe these 6 are children of my William Green. I am a direct descendant of the above son, William Green who was born about 1786 in Burke County, NC, who married Nancy Porter in 1811. They apparently moved to Haywood County, NC with their parents, but soon migrated to Carroll County, Georgia where they are buried near Villa Ricka, Georgia.) Tom, if you need names on the next generations, I have that. Two more questions -- you have mentioned a JEREMIAH GREEN who was the first to leave his family in NJ and move to NC. 1) Do you know if he moved to western NC, BUNCOMBE CO., around 1800? 2) Is he related to my grandfathers as shown above? (No, I don't think there is any connection between Jeremiah Green and my William Green. The parents of Jeremiah were Judge William Green, born about 1671 in England, who married Joanna Reeder in 1682. Some researchers believe that Judge William Green had a brother names William Green, and this could be the family our William Green descended from, but I don't think so. It is my opinion that our William Green descended from either a Thomas Green or a John Green who lived in Prince Edward County, Virginia, but several of us have spent many years attempting to identify the parents of our William Green.) Tom, thank you very much for any info you can provide on these Greens. We all appreciate your input. Linda Pitt County, NC >> I hope this has helped in some way. Let me know if I can provide any other info. Tom Green
