In a message dated 98-10-07 14:24:36 EDT, you write: << Were your Greens still in Carroll Co. in 1840? Some of the given names you listed show up in John Cephas GREEN's family, but none of them are unusual, I suppose! There were at least two or three Tillmans in our family, Thomas & William occur frequently, as do Martha & Elizabeth John Cephas GREEN was b. 08 MAR 1812. According to various census schedules he was born in SC. He married Nancy T. HUCKEBA/HUCKABY, daughter of William and Sarah (Brown) Huckaby in Coweta Co., GA, in 1836. They were listed (on p. 51) in Carroll Co. on the 1840 census, though they apparently left GA around 1841. >> Hi Elizabeth, Sorry, but I don't recognize your John Cephas Green. I have no indication that the John Green in my line went to Georgia, but then I don't know where he went! Yes, William Mercer Green, born about 1786 in Burke County, NC died in Carroll County, Georgia on March 24, 1847 and is buried next to his wife, Nancy Porter Green who died March 6, 1847, in fact there was one burial ceremony for both. They are buried in a private family cemetery and a cousin was keeping up the graves, but has died within the past few years. This family lived in the home originally built by Samuel Hart who discovered gold in Indian territory, which caused the Indian wars of that day, ending in the Trail of Tears. Tom Green
