I am posting this obit of Archibald Green, 1799 Vermont - 1885 Ohio in the hopes that it will help someone in our group. I found it in the book "Some Smiths, Osborns, and Allied Families of New England and Ohio": (Note his sons were living in NY) Obit.: Archibald Green, b. Williamstown, Vt., 1 May 1799, d. at his home in N. Bloomfield, Ohio, 30 Sept. 1885. "In Feb. 1817, a sturdy, brave hearted boy, with a sled, two yoke of oxen, and a team of horses, he made a 26-day journey from the hills of Vermont to the woods of Ohio. And going straight to Bloomfield he never changed his plan of battle. ...In 1829 he married Nancy Howe, a woman who would grace alike a cabin or a palace. ... Brick and marble may build palaces, but they do not build such a home as (theirs) ... For nearly half a century that modest home was as a rock in the storm, a light in the dark and a place of cheer in gloom to a whole community, and there was something touching and positively beautiful in the hold which it kept on the sons and daughters who went forth from it..." Mr. Green kept his integrity perfect...On all questions of morality, in all political questions where freedom for the slave, or justice to any man was concerned, men knew instinctively where he would stand.... Yet he was a perfect gentleman; he was simply unfailing in a courtesy and hospitality that was at once gentle and sincere...His whole life was an unusual example of unselfishness...He was forever stopping his own forward march to help someone on who faltered on the journey". He and Nancy had six children, five of whom survived him--Albert W. and Edward M. of New York; and Mrs. Wm. Chinnock, Mrs. W. S. Ackley, and Mrs. A. V.
