Hello, I am new to this list and desperate for some clues about my "orphaned" Green family. What I know: Joseph Robert Green was born (according to death certificate) 20 Nov 1840 in Washington County, AL. He died 8 Dec 1912 in Clarke Co., MS. Death Cert also lists his father's name as Mark Green, birthplace (of course) unknown. His mother is listed as Elizabeth Howell, born (again) unknown. He was a "retired politician" at the time of his death. Joseph Green married Mary Ann Guy (daughter of Wrigdon Guy of Clarke Co., AL) April 30, 1863 in Clarke Co., AL. They had 14 children. In 1880, Joseph and Mary Ann were living in Wayne Co., MS. Joseph Green served in the 8th MS Inf. and is buried at Oddfellow's Cemetery in Quitman, MS. Family members say that this Green family was always involved in politics to some degree, but no one is very clear about what that means. I have been unsuccessful in locating any record of Mark and Elizabeth Green in either MS or AL, and would love to hear from anyone researching Greens from this area. Thanks for your time!
