    1. Re: [GREEN-L] Re: Lewis Green and the Bear.
    2. In a message dated 98-10-15 03:09:35 EDT, you write: << This message and the other one you sent in regard to Larry Herrin's message gives Lewis Green marrying Elizabeth Lauderdale. Do you have anything that would indicate when and where such a marriage took place? I checked a book on the Lauderdale family in the TN Archives and I purchased a genealogy of the Lauderdale family this summer. Neither book indicates any connection between the Green and Lauderdale families. I would appreciate any info you can supply. Lewis Green got a land grant south of the Dan River, and bordering the NC line. This grant is the eastern point of the city of Danville, VA today. He was probably living there when the bear attack took place. >> Hi Charles, I was hoping you would see my messages on Lewis Green, and I want to thank you for sending me the booklet you compiled on the bear attack. I love the old stories, and this one is great! I do not have any documentation regarding the Lewis Green who married Elizabeth Lauderdale, but here is what I have collected from what others have posted. I show Lewis A. Green was born about 1710 (some say 1724) in Prince George County, Virginia and served in the French Indian War with Capt. Robert McKenzie's company from Dinwiddle County, Virginia. He married Elizabeth "Sarah" Lauderdale the daughter of James Maitland Lauderdale before 1750 baised on the ages of their oldest daughter, Nancy Green, born about 1750, who married Peter Hutchinson. I show that Lewis Green died August 6, 1785 in Washington County, Virginia (Now Tennessee). Their son, Lewis Green, Jr. born May 5, 1751 married Ester Kilgore. They also had a son named Zachariah Green, born 1760 in Fincastle, Virginia who married Sarah McKain. Zachariah Green is mention in a footnote in your booklet as a son of Lewis Green who fought the bear. The only other info I have is the names of their other children. Hope this helps in some way. Do you think we have the correct Lewis Green? Tom Green
