Bill, The Jersey Settlement in NC was in what was then Rowan Co. in the 1750s when it began to be settled. It became Davidson Co. NC in 1823. The Green or Greene family who came to the Jersey settlement came down from Hopewell Twp./Maidenhead -now Lawrenceville area of Burlington, Hunterdon, now Mercer Co. NJ. The notable name that appears throughout this Greene family in almost every generation for about 100 years is the name Gersham or Gershom - if you have any descendants or siblings of descendants with this name that crop up you will know that you are part of this Greene family that came from Hopewell/Maidenhead area of NJ to Jersey settlement. Many of them also married into the Hunt family that came from this NJ area to the Jersey settlement as well. ( I am a Hunt descendant - but don't know anything about my Green ancestors from a different area at present). There is a wonderful article on the families of Hopewell NJ and their story of why they left NJ and came to NC by Ethel Stroupe written for the Rowan County Register and also one by Gloria Padach written for the Rowan County Register as well. Also I wrote an article on the two settlements for the Parke Society newsletter last year. I am at work at the moment and don't have the dates of these publications. I think I also encountered it "online" somewhere (the Rowan Register articles) and believe I got it just by going to a search engine and putting in "Jersey Settlement" Rowan Co., NC....I will check and get back to the list on it.
