Selma & All: Yes, I've heard that Lewis was married before he married Elizabeth CADDEL. Does anyone have info on his prior spouse? This is all I have on Lewis GREEN: 1787 - September 13, Charles Trim to Lewis Green sale of 240 acres for £120 on Cobb Creek of South Hico adjacent to Andrew CADDLE, witnessed by John Cannady, H. J. Womack - witness, page 144. Caswell County, NC. 1789 - December 26, Lewis Green married Elizabeth CADDEL. Andrew CADDEL - bondsman, J. Womack - witness. Caswell County, NC. Lewis is the same as above noted half- brother of Burwell Green. Refer to his estate sale of 1794. 1789 - Caswell Co., NC tax list showed Lewis GREEN owned 240 acres, with two whites and no Blacks. 1790 - St James District, Caswell County, NC census listed Burwell Green, Lewis GREEN. 1791 - January 17, Lewis Green to Burwell Green, sale of 100 acres for £50, land on Double Creek of South Hico, adjacent to Andrew Cadwell (CADDEL) and Robert Dickens, Caswell County, Deed Book G, pages 158 and 159. 1794 - Inventory of estate of Lewis Green, Person County, NC, Sale of property was Elizabeth (his widow), Burwell Green, Andrew CODDLE, John CODDLE, and John Green. 1795 - March, John CADDELL and Andrew CADDEL purchased part of the estate of Lewis Green, deceased. A genealogist reported "Even before Caswell County, NC was formed from Orange County in 1777, we find that Lewis Green lived in the area. A ford on the Dan River had been named after him and we find mention of this in the 1764 Orange County records." Lewis GREEN sold goods to travelers on the River. II.4.
