This message if from another list. Thought I would help by passing it on. It would be nice if we could get the cost back down. Hi everyone - Talking about Social Security - someone wrote her congress man - he in turn wrote Social Security - the letter they wrote him is pure "gobbly-goop". Her Congressman sent her a copy of the letter he had received. In the letter her Congressman wrote to her, he said for her to call his aide - which she did. They said they would take it up in Congress. [we will see] If every one of you would write 'snail mail' to your Congressman / Representive and complain about it - it just may do some good. She spoke to a woman at Social Security and asked her what was the reason going from $7.00 to $27.00 this is her reply to me. "There are so many workers at the age of retirement - and they are NOT going to be replaced - leaving a few to do all of the work. By raising the rates so high, they are discouraging us from asking for the records." She would not give her name - understandable - The Congressman agreed that the cost from $7.00 to $27.00 sounds unreasonable. So, please write your Congressman / Representive - and by the way they don't pay any attention to e-mails because there is no signature on them, no proof it came from you - any one can send an e mail with any name on it - BUT with a snail mail letter they figure that represents 50 voters - AND Snail mail letters they do pay attention to - e-mail letters they don't. So please write your Congressman and your Representive - pass this on to the other lists you belong to, if you want. We have changed things before, and we can do it again, if we all work together. Those original applications have helped me a great deal, telling me parents names I didn't know - and where they worked. By raising the rates like this, Social Security is hindering our efforts to find our families. 'nough said -
