    3. Have just had a nice visit to Ft. Eustis where Mulberry Island is and where the Major Filmer and his wife Elizabeth Standards lived after they arrived in America somewhere around 1640. It is evident that they were there and our guide from the FEHA (Ft. Eustis Historical and Archaeological Association) gave us evidence that they did, indeed, live there. They will be beginning an archaeological dig in late October searching for anything that may have survived including gravestones, possible sites of homes, etc. We have been searching for the connection of this Filmer family to the Greens and believed it to be through their daughter, Martha, who married Thomas The Seagull Green. We found evidence that Thomas and Martha Green occupied property on the island at one time. The museum they showed us was the Matthew Jones house. Joneses also were living on the island at one time. Later evidence shows that an Elizabeth Filmer married a Hubbard whose daughter married a Jones. I wanted to see if Elizabeth represented another branch of the Major Filmer family -- perhaps his nephew Samuel, etc. The only thing I can find on the internet is a conflict showing Elizabeth Filmer Hubbard was a descendant of Major Henry Filmer. The Filmers apparently came to this country with a daughter, son, nephew and a housekeeper. Did the Filmers have two daughters? Was Elizabeth born in England? Was Martha born in America? What happended to the son? Samuel apparently had no heirs. In a record of County records in Warwick County, edited by Dunn and published in 2000, Elizabeth Filmer testified in court in 1650 at the age of 49 years. I presumed she was mother of Martha who was born about 1640. She would have been 41 at Martha's birth. Thomas Green was born, apparently, in 1635, but the Speedwell's records of passengers does not list anyone but perhaps his father on board. Records say Thomas Sr. came in 1635 with his wife and two daughters and his son was born aboard ship. Another mystery is that Abraham, supposedly son of Thomas and Martha was born when his mother was 65! That is highly unlikely, but maybe possible. I have talked to quite a few people about this and they need not answer unless they have something new. But if any of you have not discussed this with me and have something to add, I would appreciate it. I do not know of any other Filmer line and I do not know where Elizabeth Filmer Hubbard fits into this picture. The Filmer name has been given to many in the descendancy records, but they were Willses, Greens and their descendants -- not Filmers other than from the Major's family. Thanks for anything you can add. Please include reliable references for your information. Catharine Birchard
