Can any of the Green researchers shed any light on Charles Green born about 1770, son of George Green 1749-1795 of New Jersey. George Green was the son of Samuel "The Surveyor" Green. I have seen a posting that Charles was the father of Sina Green who married William Jewell. I have found a lot of information on George and Samuel, but nothing on what happened to the children of George after he was put to death. Would like to prove or disprove that Charles, the son of George was the husband of Nancy and the father of Nancy, William 1789-1868, Sina 1794-aft 1843, David 1798-1860, Joseph 1795-? and Isaac 1804-1880. Most of these children were born in either PA or DE and resided in Beaver Co., PA or Columbiana Co., OH. Any help in solving this mystery is appreciated. Thanks, Modena
Hi All, While everyone is thinking about Greens in NJ, I'd like to find out about MARY ANN GREEN, b. 6 Feb 1813 in NJ, married Asahel Webster in Delaware County, NY 8 Feb 1813. Died in KS in 1892. Larry Webster in CO
I have just received a very interesting but puzzling document entitled Genealogy of the Greene Family. It starts with a John Greene who arrived in Rhode Island shortly after 1620. Authorship for most of the document is credited to (MajGen) George Sears Greene of Rhode Island. I believe there were two other authors as well. I think much of this may have been discussed in the past few weeks or months but it didn't register with me at the time as the Green/Greene families which I have been researching were in Georgia. I have transcribed or reformatted the document in order to make it more readable but it is at least three pages long, too long I believe to list here. The closing two paragraphs of the paper were as follows: In the Patowomut branch the order of descent from the original immigrant is: 1. John the founder 2. James 3. Jabez 4. Nathaniel the Quaker Preacher 5. Nathaniel, the General Genealogy of the Cowent (Warwick) Branch of the Greene family in New England 1. John Greene, senior, the founder of the family in New England 2. John Greene, Junior, born in 1619 0r 1620 - Deputy Governor of the Colony from 1690 to 1700. Died Nov 27, 1708 3. Samuel, son of John Junior, born 1670, died 1720 4. Wiliiam, son of Samuel, born 16th of May 1696. Lt. Gov. and Gov. of the Colony for thirteen of the seventeen years between 1741 and 1758, in which later years he died in office. 5. William, son of William, born Aug 16th, 1731. Chief Justice of the State of Rhode Island in 1777, and Governor from 1778 to 1785. Died 29 Nov 1809. 6. Ray Green, son of the second William born Feb 2, 1765. Attorney General and District Attorney for several years, till 1797, when he was elected Senator in Congress, which office he resigned in 1801. Died 11 Jan 1849. 7. William, son of Ray, at present (1867); Lieutenant Governor of Rhode island. If anyone recognizes this line I would appreciate hearing from you. If anyone is interested I would be happy to send the whole document directly. I would be especially interested in knowing how/if this line has connections to Georgia.
After subscribing to the Green list for years and administering it for almost two years- this is the first time that I've seen anyone from my line contribute a post! Keep the faith fellow listers - connections are eventually made. Thank you Caryn for posting the full text of OUR great-great-grandfather's obit. I only had about 80% of the text and was missing the end of the article, now we have the full text. Thank you. My mom found this in a box of letters. This is my great-great grandfather. Thought it might be interesting, especially to someone connected to this line of GREENS. DEATH OF REUBEN B. GREEN, AGED NINETY-SIX YEARS One of Missouri's Grand Old Men Mr. Reuben B. Green died at 10:20 o'clock on the evening of Monday, Ocotober 6, 1913, at the home of his son, Ira Green, seven miles south west of Polo, Mo., in Knoxville Township, Ray County. The Missourian herewith prints this life sketch based on a biography written by Laura Arnote, a grand-daughter of Mr. Green and one of Ray County's finest young women. In this day and age of the world not many folks are pemitted to reach the ripe old age of four score and ten and six years--but Mr. Reuben Broils Green lacked only 21 days of being Ninety Six years of age when he breathed his last on Monday evening. "Uncle Reuben" (as he is familiarly called by his great number of friends) was born Oct. 28, 1817, near Jonesboro, Washington County, east Tennessee. He was the son of Ira and Mary Broils Green, and he was given the name of his grandfather, Reuben Broils. Uncle Reuben was the last survivor of his father's family of nine children whose names were as follows: Roxana, Alexander, Newton, Reuben, Susan, Henry, Adam, Amanda and Jane. He came of strong, sturdy, energetic, courageous ancestors, as one example, his grandmother Green, rode on horseback all the way from extreme east Tennessee to Lafayette County, Missouri, in 1830, when she was 80 years old. He remembered of often hearing his father tell of his experiences in the Indian Wars, and of a narrow escape at one time from an Indian--hiding behind a tree as a refuge. He spent his early years in east Tennessee, but, when a young man in 1840 he made a trip to South Missouri where he spent four years working at mills and lumber business along White River. He returned to his old home in Tennessee where he was engaged in many kinds of labor, but principally farming and carpenter work. In April, 1847, he was married to Susan Garber, an industrious little neighbor girl of sixteen summers. She was born July 1, 1830, in Virginia and she was the oldest daughter of Solomon and Nancy (Staufer) Garber. Her father was a minister of the Brethren or Dunkard Church and departed this life in 1854 in Tennessee. Her mother lived to a good old age and spent her late years in her home in Missouri. Uncle Reuben, together with his wife and three children, came to Ray County in the spring of 1853. He built his own flat boat which they lauched at the mouth of Limestone. They floated down the river to Paducah where they took the steamboat, transferring again at St. Louis. Joel Garber, his wife's brother, accompanied them on the trip. They were more than a month on the way and had many interesting experiences. They landed at Lexington, Mo., and came up to north Ray to relatives and friends. Uncle Reuben settled on a farm 2 1/2 miles north west of Knoxville where he ever afterward resided until the death of his wife, 6 years ago, when he went to live with his youngest son, Ira, whose home is near the old home place. He bought the farm of Uncle Isaac Leabo at that early date for $8.00 per acre and afterward entered two government forties. He has since purchased land, from time to time, giving each of his children a good farm. He made two subsequent trips back to east Tennessee to visit relatives. He served in militia three months during the Civil War. Uncle Reuben and Aunt Susan (she of blessed memory) were the parents of seven sons and five daughters, namely: Elizabeth, who married John P. Arnote of Knoxville township; she departed this life, Sept. 18, 1907. Mary A., who married Joseph Zimmerman of north Ray; he is now deceased; she now resides in Polo. John Green, whose death occurred when a young man. Joshua N. died when young. Joel Green married Delilah Albright. Jas. H. married Jane Tunnell; he departed this life about 20 years ago. Baby girl died in infancy. Sarah Ellen died when young. David R. married Louise Thompson. Samuel married Margaret J. Thompson. His death occurred Dec. 15, 1912, in Amarilla, Texas, as a result of an automobile wreck. Ira Green married Ida Fulmer of Illinois. Rose J., now Mrs. Robt. M. Crenshaw of Whittier, Calif. Uncle Reuben was a member of the Brethren Church, as was his faithful, true and noble life companion for many years. He was blessed with 25 grand children and 16 great grand children. Unlce Reuben was known far and wide for his kindly spirit and obliging nature, integrity, honesty and fairness in all his dealings. He was a good example of noble manhood of which his children, grand children, and great grandchildren are very proud. He ever lived a clean, upright, modest, busy, exemplary life. He performed an immense amount of hard work and was always full of ambition, life and activity, just as long as his strength would permit him to go. Even in his old days he was very patient, kind, and good--never complaining about anything and preferred to care for himself as much as he could. And he was not helpless. He attended church two or three times within the last few months, and visited recently with his daughter, Mrs. Zimmerman in Polo, going the seven miles with his son in an automobile, also has taken dinner twice in the last few months at the home of Mr. John P. Arnote. He was possessed of a remarkably clear mind, his hearing and eye sight good--but, of course, he was rather feeble in a way, and it was a difficult task for him to walk very much for the past year. The departure of this pioneer and one of nature's noblemen was gentle and peaceful, he having long ago made his peace with here and hereafter in keeping with his meek and gentle spirit. Ray County will never see a more honest man until the Day of Days when the Master of the universe shall come in His Power in Judgment. Uncle Reuben was as frank as a child, as just as the judges of ancient days. He set many a man on his feet, lending money to persons whom others dared not trust in many instances--yet he prospered and his wealth increased. Before his death he had practically given all his wealth away to his children. The Funeral was held by Rev. J. E. Ellenberger yesterday at eleven o'clock at Bethel Church. Interment at the Bethel Cemetery. CARYN
On World Connect there are two postings for Theodore Green and family. One is from Patrick E Roper and the other is from an Ernest Stander. Would anyone happen to have any information about Esick GREEN born about January 21, 1808 in New York. He removed to Newbury Twp., LaGrange Co., IND by 1836 where he married the widow, Sarah (COTTON) HACKET(T). By 1856 the family moved to Ravenna Twp., Muskegon Co., MI. On the 1880 Esick's parents are both shown as born in Massachusetts. There was a Levi GREEN(E) that appeared in LaGrange County, not far from Newbury Twp., at about the same time as Esick arrived there. Levi was also born in NY within a couple years of Esick. If this sounds familiar to anyone I would certainly appreciate hearing of it.
Hi Listers: I am trying to find the parents of WILLIAM NATHAN GREEN born in LA, married EMILY FROLENA COSPER in LAMPASAS CO., TX in 1890. They lived & farmed there and had 4 children but WILLIAM NATHAN died before the 1900 TX Census. Is anyone researching some LA Greens that came to TX? Has anybody come across some Green's with a son named WILLIAM NATHAN probably born in the late 1860's or early 1870's in LA who came on to TEXAS? Hello fellow researchers, I am looking for descendants of Thomas GREENE, b. c. 1714, m. Elizabeth _____. They lived in what was Lancaster / Cumberland / Bedford County, PA, finally becoming Somerset County, PA. They had a son Richard, daughters Mary, Abigail and Margaret. If anyone has a connection or information relating to this family, your help would be most appreciated. Do you know who were Thomas' parents, where was he born, the maiden name of his wife, her family, who their children married, or any details? Thank you. Ken Family is like the branches of a tree. We may grow in different directions, yet our roots remain as one. Each of us will always be part of the other.
All that I have on my Green/e connection is the first name Rachel who was born about 1830 NC. I know nothing further except the days of her children, including a John WILLIS Hooker who was my great grandfather. Because of the presence of both Willis and Greens in Culpeper CO, VA, I wonder if perhaps that may be my line. Also, one of this family has the middle name Lafayette that is very popular in Madison and Culpeper where General Lafayette stayed following the War. Dear Lists I sent this to several lists that might have some information. These are my Galway Irish Lines. I am hoping that some one might be able to come up with an obit on one or any of these individuals. Or tell me where would be a good place to search for one. If not an Obit any additional information on these individuals. These deaths probably all occurred in Western Galway close to Clifden. I know the records are sparse in some cases. Is there any chance in locating additional records or Obits on these people. I am seeking information on Elizabeth Green born abt 1781 in Amelia Co. VA She married Allen V. Stoker 8/30/1799. I have no other information on this couple. Do you know these people? If anyone has any information and/or connection to any of these people perhaps we could be of help to each other. The areas involved would be Washington County, MD which became Allegany County, MD, possibly the connecting boundaries of Pennsylvania, Virginia/West Virginia. Jeremiah Green(e) m. Elizabeth McConner 13 Oct 1793 Joshua Green(e) m. Sally Webster 5 Dec 1798 Joshua Green(e) m. Elizabeth McConner 8 Mar 1800 William Green(e) m. Margaret Shockey 18 Oct 1817 William Green(e) m. Catherine Devore 12 Jan 1822 I do not know who their parents were, nor do I know any info pertaining to any children of any of the couples. I in fact do not have very much information or knowledge about them, other than the narrowing down process of elimation...they were in a particular area, associated with and close to other family members during the same time frame. I would appreciate hearing from anyone who can help or offer any clues. Thank you. Ken

Green/Greene researchers: It has been some time since I posted a request for information about my g-grandfather. It's probably time to inquire again. My great-grandfather, Gilbert Greene, was born in Hawkins County, TN on 12 February 1824, and died in Piatt County, IL 23 July 1894. It is possible that his middle initial may have been (C). He is believed to have had at least the following siblings....Ruth, Mandy and Martha, who were twins, and up to a half dozen others. He served in company H and G of the 13th regiment of the Illinois Cavalry during the Civil War. His ancestry continues to remain a complete mystery. Any help is appreciated. Darrell Blue Yakima, WA
WILLIAM GREENE was born 1671 in England or New Jersey, and died June 16, 1722 in Trenton, Hunterdon Co, NJ. He married JOANNA REEDER in Newton, Long Island, Queens Co., NY. She is the daughter of JOHN REEDER and JOANNA BURROUGHS. Does anyone have a connection with this family? Can anyone help with the parents of William? Thank you for any help. Fran
