    1. [GREEN-L] Bill and Spam - I agree with you
    2. Virus warnings, test messages, chain letters, political announcements, commercial ads, "PERSONAL CHAT" messages, profanity or OFF TOPIC MESSAGES (like this one) are usually not acceptable on most list forums. Most of us are on several mailing lists and prefer not to be bombarded with useless e-mails. I just want to find my ancestors, their descendants and would like to see just NAMES,NAMES, NAMES and where they came from and where they went. Diane

    2. Hello Bill, I guess you must have taken a poll of "most subscribers" that I forgot to vote in. So, here's my vote. I think this list is one of the most informative and active on the Internet. I, for one, enjoy each and every post and, have discovered numerous links to my own family tree. I think, in most cases, the subscribers do E-mail the person directly and then send a copy to the list, in case anyone else is interested. If you yourself have a specific question, ask it, and some of us will try to help if we can. However, I would hope that the answerer would send a copy of their reply to the list in general, just in case someone else might be interested in the same line as you. If that's "Spam" then so be it. I for one, wouldn't have it any other way. Ron Greene RGreene431@aol.com

    3. Looking for someone that might know of or have heard of Adelia Green, born in Bergen Co, NJ., abt 1548 or 1549 she was married to Charles Vincent Helms of Monroe, NY. They were married in Monroe, NY on April 14, 1864. No mention of her Parents was made, and she died in Carbondale, PA.. We have the Death certifacate but it only listed the Birthplace as Bergen Co.. I have searched many a place even records at the LDS, but she seems to stay out of my reach, I often wonder if my family was hatched, or maybe came up out of the ground.. On that note I will add that Charles was finally located, and thanks to the Helms-L list we have his side all the way back to England.. The key being a scrape of Envelope written to Charles with the dates of his parents deaths... So I'll never throw anything away... Thanks, for any ideas.. Wanda Clowater

    3. Hi Fellow Greene/Green researchers! Is anyone researching in the Greene County area of NY?? My search of my now infamous Charles FM Greene, yep, the one who crawled out from under a rock - came from a time warp - another planet - etc, has led me perhaps to Coxsackie and I would guess I should search surrounding area as no record of him exsists in Athens except for the 1875 census and a record in 1874. Is anyone else reseaching in the Coxsackie and maybe Cairo area? Sue Pawley trottr@icanect.net Wont bore you with Charles FM Greene but am also researching surnames Church, Throm, Kogl and variant spellings.

    3. Dear Emily, Try Http://www.libertynrt.org/ gencap/pacounties.html. Pennsylvania has extensive records: for instance my Dad subcribes to a PNN-Bedford list. So there should be an Allegany list. Since these ancestors were married relatively late, there should be no problem finding their records. It would help to know if they were Quakers, Palantine or PNN Dutch or Lutheran as each of these sets of folks keep records extesively. There is also Ancestory.com- Ancestory Irish Quakers. And There's Brenda's Pnn Sites--- Http://www.geocities.com/ heartland/plains/8021/palinks. htm. Another Green searcher, CindyGreen/Sproul

    2. In a message dated 98-09-04 09:20:50 EDT, you write: << Hello Tom, I am not familiar with this Thomas and Lucy (Davis) Green family. Who is the father of this Thomas? Who is William you refer to? Bill >> Hi Bill, In 1761 Thomas Green purchased land in Prince Edward County, Virginia from his father-in-law Peter Davis. For years I have thought this Thomas Green was possibly the father of my William Green born there February 6, 1762, but the documentation I have found seem to indicate I am incorrect. There is a mention in the William and Mary Qarterly that a William Green may have been the father of this Thomas Green. Most of the early Green marriages in Prince Edward County are children of this Thomas Green who first married Ann Barryman and they had one son named Barryman Green. After Ann Barryman Green died, Thomas then married Lucy Davis, the daughter of Peter Davis, and they had a number of children. Let me know if I can provide additional info on this family. Tom Green My William Green named his first son Thomas S. Green, so the naming patern seems correct, doesn't prove anything.

If these two pieces of property are >near each other, I would think this is the same John Green. > >The only other Greens mentioned in Deed Book (1) of Prince Edward County, Va. >are the Thomas Green who married Lucy Davis, and the William Green that >witnessed his April 25, 1761 land purchases from Thomas' father-in-law, Peter >Davis. > >As you said, it appears one of these men was the father of our ancestors. I >don't see anything in Deed Book (2) of Prince Edward County, Va. that appears >to contirdict this theory. These two seem to be the only Greens in the >county. The deed on page 142b. of Deed Book (2) is the one that gives >Christiana as the name of John Green's wife, and it is dated February 21, >1763, so that would prove they were in the county when my William Green was >born on February 6, 1762. The only thing that bothers me about this theory is >William and Kezziah Green didn't name a daughter Christiana Green. > >The early marriage records don't help much, as only the family of the Thomas >Green who married Lucy Davis appear to be recorded. There is a Betsy Green >who married James Baven May 4, 1792 that is not identified as being a daughter >of Thomas and Lucy David Green, but other than her, the others all belong to >Thomas and Lucy. > >Where do we go from here??? > >Tom Green > > > Hi Tom and All, Can't speak for others, but I really like it when you folks post messages such as this on the Green list. Makes for interesting reading. Thanks, Brenda Jo

    1. [GREEN-L] "1847 Will" Shadrack of NC
    2. Emily Jackson
    3. Rob- Dear Bob, Nathan, Joe, Ron, Charles, and J R - This is my current working descendant chart for "1847 Will" Shadrack -- you will notice that it is considerably smaller than the one generally circulated for "Shadrack Green (b.1760) m Mary Gage". Basically, I read the will with an intense focus on *what it said* rather than what it was generally *assumed* to say. This grouping fits very well with the census data at the 1800 and 1820 points (I don't have any actual data for the 1810 census year) and I think it's reasonably well-supported. However, I would absolutely love some fact-based criticism -- I can only improve my theory if its weaknesses are pointed out!
