I have lost email addresses for two people that had sent a query a few weeks ago on Alexander Little Page Green. I am sorry, but would you please email me again. Mell
Found some info on George Green. George Green was born in MD. or Va., between 1736 and 1760 and died in 1823 in Jackson Co. Ala. He married Judith Spillman in 1776. Judith was born in 1761 in Albemarle Co. Va. and died 18 March 1846 at Nashville Tenn. at the age of 85. She had been a member of the Methodist Church for 70 years. They reportedly had sixteen children. The known children were: Edward, born 1787 N.C., Marie born 1793, married ---Prentice. L.W. born 1804, Alexander Little Page born 6 June 1806, Sevier Co. Tenn. When george's children were quite young he removed from Sevier Co. to Rhea County, Tn. and after a few years residence, settled in the Honeycomb Valley of Jackson County, Ala. where he remained until his death in 1823. In my research in KIng George Co. Va, I found "Spillman" families there. Mell

Grantee Judith Green (widow) Militia District: Cooper's Lot No: 201 Dist.No:23, County: Wilkerson. This could be the widow of George Green father of Alexander Littlepage Green. I would really like to have some information on George green. Mell
I would sure like to have some help from someone on my Green line. I have four "Virginia Boys" that came to Texas about 1838. Names are John born about 1797, Aaron born about 1804, Benjamin born about 1795 and James born 1785. I have found John and Aaron in the census of Madison County Tenn. 1830. In Aaron's household is an older man age 80 to 90. I would like to find the name of this older man who should be a Green. My question is, WOULD THIS OLDER MAN PAY TAXES? John and Aaron roamed around Ala., Tenn., Miss. and then into Texas where they died. Could someone PLEASE help me? Mell
Hi Rob -- I know the chances of a connection are remote, but I too have a mysterious "Ella M." GREEN. I have a gggfather Marvel GREEN who married three times, and in his 1860 Census record (St. Francois County, MO) he is paired with an "Ella M" age 44. Because the presumed death date of his first wife and marriage date of his second are unknown, it is not known how many of Marvel's children were by Ella M. Possibilities include a Sarah L GREEN b.1852 in Indiana and a Martha S. GREEN b. 1854 in Indiana, although a James W. GREEN b.1859 in Missouri is the only definate. By 1870 Marvel has married his third wife, and the only child of his still living with him is James W. GREEN. Because no marriage or death dates are known, I suppose it is possible that the "Ella M" listed with Marvel in the 1860 census had another child with him (or more) and then for whatever reason left him and took the younger child(ren) with her when she went. I only suggest this possibility because you seem to have hit a brick wall otherwise. Emily >From: "largo" <largo@ptinet.net> >To: GREEN-L@rootsweb.com >Subject: [GREEN-L] ELLA M. Hi Tom, I saw you reply to the person signed "DITAW" who was asking about the NIX, GREEN, & KYLE individuals. However, I didn't see an E-mail address for that person. I do show that Amos GREENE had a son named Andrew Jackson GREENE (b. 1817 in NC; d. Ballground, Cherokee, GA) who married Irene (Orena?) KYLE. Andrew and Irene had a daughter named Elizabeth Caroline GREENE 9b. 1838) who married Daniel NIX on March 14, 1856 in Cherokee Co, GA. Perhaps the "DITAW" who made the original inquiry will see this message. If not, if you have his/her address, perhaps you could forward a copy of my message to that person. Hope this info helps. Check this site: (enter exactly as listed below) departments.mwc.edu/hipr/www/fredburg.htm It contains the indexes for several newspapers which served Fredericksburg and surrounding areas, including the Virginia Herald (1786-1876). Many, many, many Greens listed in these indexes. The newspapers are on microfilm in the Rappahannock Regional Library in F'Burg. Hope this info helps someone get past that "ol brick wall." Good luck. This is the content of the letter written by Willis Raymond Adams b. 9 May 1896, St Joseph, MO. Son of William E. Adams & Rosa Catherine Adams. They were first cousins and divorced after Willis was born. (I am assuming they were married, have never been able to confirm.) All the half siblings that he knew about are listed here, he was in extremely good mind at the time we were writing to each other. He is my husband's grandfather. He married Mildred Larsen in 1918, we don't know where. We do have a wedding picture, but they ran off to marry. Mildred was in San Francisco with her family at the time. Mildred was born 15 Jun 1899, San Francisco, CA. d. 14 Apr 1978, Concord, CA. Willis died 13 Apr 1984, Fayetteville, Arkansas, in the VA hospital. He is buried in the Monett, Barry, MO., Cemetery. They had these children: 1 . George Raymond Adams b. 10 Nov 1918, Pawnee, Pawnee, OK 2. Scott Marion Adams b. 6 Nov 1920, Fairfax, Osage, OK. 3. Albert Leslie Adams b. 14 Jun 1923, Bolivar, Polk, MO. 4. Wilma May Adams b. 30 May 1925, Concord, Contra Costa, CA. The letter goes as follows: dated Nov 23, 1976, Monett, MO. Dear Mrs. Adams and Roy (my husband and I were just married, hence the formality.) I got your letter yesterday. I was sure glad to hear from you, and to get the pictures, many thanks. Thanks a million for them. I don't have a picture of Roy, just Edith, Scott and the girls. They must not have had Roy yet. I will put the pictures in a frame and fasten them to the wall. I got a lot of pictures, and Minnies what nots and ect... I looked for a picture of Grandma and Grandpa, but I didn't find but one of Grandpa. I must have give the two I had to Jean when she was here a year ago last May. I had their picture on the wall so I taken them down and Sinclair Rogers photographer, will make me one of each. I will get them about the first of Dec. and will send them to you. I will send you our wedding pictures this time, I hope you both like it. I think Roy is a very nice looking man, and you are a very nice looking lady. I just hope you both stay together and make a happy life for you both. Minnie and I just lacked 9 days bieng married 25 years, and that old cancer got her. She worked like a dog for these people in a cafe, and house work in the old hotel in Purdy, and in the beauty parlor in Purdy. I told her that I would make a living for both of us, and I did. She never worked out anymore for our twenty five years. We owned and sold 1.2 acres, three houses and lots, one 12 ft X 60 foot trailer home in that time. We owned 9 head of cows, on the 20 acres one time. I had the twenty acres when we got married, we sold it and bought it back 4 times. I think it would be a mistake for you and Roy to go to Utah, you know, Roy was born out there and can get work. And Utah is Mormon country. It gets cold in the winter time and it's hot in the summer. I hope I am not trying to tell you what to do, or where to go, but for me, I would stay there. I did good in Concord, but things didn't go like they should for me. I have did very well here. Minnie and I were well off, but when I lost her, I sure been broken up since. I don't have anyone but Jean, and she had a stroke on Jul 2nd and was in the hospital till Jul 9th. That was after she went home from visiting me. It will be two years next July. If I had my legs in good shape, I could work right along with the young folks, but I am crippled for life. I walk with crutches. I walked this fore noon, 2 1/4 miles, and I will walk another mile or so this afternoon. I only got half sisters and brothers. Some I don't know anything about them. One I never seen. Elmer Smith was born in Pawnee, Oklahoma, about 1910. Lodusky Marie Smith was born at Pawnee, Oklahoma, I don't know just what year, but around 1912. My half sister Goldie Adams was born in St Joseph, MO. about 1/2 mile from where I was born. She was born Aug. 8th, 1900. And Dora Adams was born in Utah about 1902. She was 6 years younger than I am. Robert Adams was born in St. Joseph, Missouri, I think 1897. Frank Adams was born in St Joseph, I don't know the date, but he was born between Robert and Dora. Mildred can write Dora if she knows where she is. I don't know. I hope this will help you out. So write when you can, All my love and best wishes to you all. Another stamp for you, and Jeans name and address. Willis. Does this sound familiar to anyone out there? I have some others too. But this had the siblings in it's content. Rose Adams in CA.

Thanks bushels, Brenda Jo >> Hi Brenda Jo, I show that the first Thomas Green and his wife Martha came to Virginia from Rotterdam, Holland on the ship "Speedwell" which was suppose to have been the sister ship of the Mayflower, but had leak problems and had to return to port on that first voyage to America. On a later trip, the Speedwill arrived in 1635, so that is the considered the birth year of the son, Thomas "The Seagull" Green, who was born on the Speedwell on the way to America. Thomas married Martha Filmer, the daughter of Major Henry Filmer, born in 1605, a British officer. Thomas and Martha Filmer Green had issue: (1) Thomas Green born about 1665, and died 1730 in Amelia County, Virginia, and married Elizabeth Marston, born November 25, 1672, died August 11, 1759 in Amelia County, Va. (2) Elizabeth Green, born about 1667, who married John Crawley about 1790. (3) John Green, born about 1683, died 1732 who 1st married Elizabeth ( ? ). Next married Martha Coleman ?? maybe. (4) Rebecca Green, who 1st married Mr. Condon, and 2nd married Mr. Marston. (5) Mary Green who 1st married Thomas Walker, and 2nd married James Wilkerson. (6) Hannah Green, who married James Turner. (7) Filmer Green, born about 1700, who married Mary Walker born about 1683. (8) Col. Abraham Green, born about 1705, died 1783 in Amelia County, Va., who 1st married Elizabeth Cowles, and 2nd married the widow Ann (Blunt) Nicholson October 9, 1758. (9) William Green, born about 1705, died 1745 or 1747, who married Amey Clay, the daughter of Henry Clay, born 1672, and Mary Mitchell, born 1693. William and Amey Clay Green had at least 6 children: Martha, Amey, Filmer, William, John, and Thomas Green, born about 1735, who married Martha ( ? ), who had Ann, Thomas, Elizabeth, and John Green, born about 1745, who married Elizabeth "Betty" Arthur. They had 3 children; James, Tabitha, and Barnabus Green born September 25, 1775. You are probably aware that a lot of the dates for the Seagull family are incorrect, and many have been estimated incorrectly for years. There are many researchers working on this family, and I will post this info to the Green list in hopes that others will add to, or correct this data. Hope this helps you in some way. Tom Green

Hi Folks, Thought this might be of interest, although it doesn't give a date when it will be online. When it goes online, it can usually be searched for "free" for the first week or so at: http://www.ancestry.com/ancestry/recent.asp NEW YORK BIRTHS AND BAPTISMS Ancestry.com announces the publication of a valuable collection of genealogical records chronicling over 300,000 individuals entitled New York Births and Baptisms. These actual transcripts (not merely an index) usually include child, parents, date and place of birth/baptism, and names of sponsors for churches located in Greene, Ulster, Rockland, Dutchess, Westchester, and Putnam counties from 1660 to 1899. Using Ancestry.com's powerful search software, researchers will be able to locate every name in the collection. These entries represent an extremely valuable genealogical resource, especially since the state of New York did not require keeping records of this type until 1880. This collection, like many others, can only be found at Ancestry.com. The New York Births and Baptisms, compiled from original records or photocopies of originals, was collected and transcribed by Arthur C. M. Kelly of Kinship Publishing of Rhinebeck, NY and is the result of 40 years of genealogical scholarship. The collection will be available online part of the Ancestry.com Library, and as a CD-ROM product later this year. This collection represents a valuable addition to the hundreds of databases that are currently available at Ancestry.com. ~~~~~~~~~ Whoever sees it online first should let us know so we know it's been uploaded. I checked this evening and it wasn't available yet. 121 Volumes of the DAR Lineage Books are up for free searching, though. Fran

I have not checked the Bethlehem Diary records, but the Nazareth entries listing daughters traveling to Bethlehem, suggest that the girls may also have attended classes in that town. Dick Musselman >> Hi Dick, Thanks for the additional info. I recall reading that several of the children were sent off to school, but I did not know where, except for her ldest child, George Washington Greene. He and been born after the Revolution started, and he was raised during the war. He was a favorite of his God Parents President George and Martha Washington, and they wanted young George to live with them so they could supervise his education, but Catharine Littlefield Greene chose to send her first child to France with General Lafayette inorder to have the best education he could get at the time. Of course the French Revolution broke out and young George Washington Greene barely excaped after Lafayette and his wife were placed in prision. Unfortunately George had just returned home when he drowned in front of his home. His siblings said that their mother was never the same after George died. Tom Green
