I have an Asa GREEN, who must have crawled out from under a rock along with his father, Willis GREEN ! I have no dates/locations for Asa, except that he was in Limestone County, Alabama when my great-grandfather George Madison GREEN was born (b August 28, 1833, birth year is possible incorrect?). I have Asa's wife as being Harriett Bruce, daughter of Murphrey and Elizabeth BRUCE. Asa's parents were Willis and Elizabeth GREEN. I am sorry I do not have any dates/locations, but this is all the information I have on these GREENs. I was given this information by an elderly aunt who had had it all written down for many years. I have information on the descendants of George GREEN if anyone is interested. My email address is: DWheeler5@compuserve.com. Thank you for any help you can offer. donna

Below is the info in my notes on Lewis Green, son of Filmer, son of William. Upon William's death, his widow, Amey Claye, quickly remarried and there was a nasty custody battle in the local court. Most likely this was prompted by attempts to control the significant inheritance of his children, all of whom were minors. I believe that the Thomas who was awarded custody was not William's son but was his elder brother Thomas. Another of William's brothers, Abraham, was Justice of the Court and a local squire. The William who eventually got the property married his daughter, Obedience. Filmer moved to Tennessee. Charley Green "Lewis Green, by deed made in Granville County, NC, conveyed his rights to the property lying on the east side of Green's Road in Amelia County. This was described as a 1/5 part of the estate of William Green dec'd. The conveyance was made to William Green (his brother)."

I know the NW suburbs of Chicago very well - I just moved from the North suburbs within the past year (to California). Anyway.....here is a list of libraries that should prove useful to you: Libertyville Library - small but good collection Arlington Heights Library - also relatively good Wilmette Library - has the entire 1850 census on microfilm - very good for Northeastern US research, RI, NY, and Mass. Another thing - I found the local public libraries of this system just wonderful about getting any book in on inter-library loan. And......if you don't mind a fairly short drive.....the Milwaukee public library has a very good genealogy/history section - I found it to be really terrific, especially if you are doing research in the original 13 colonies. Newberry is the best of all (one of the top history/genealogy collections in the entire country) in downtown Chicago, but it is somewhat of a pain in the neck to use . On second thought - it is more of a pain than that.....grin grin. Also......all the census records are available (along with the Rev. War Pension records) at the National Archives off Pulaski Highway in Chicago...well worth fighting traffic to get there! Also...the main branch of the Chicago library has some things - I never went there but heard from others they had a decent collection. Good luck to you! No one can answer your question unless they know what state and town you are looking for Cyn Summrswm2@aol.com wrote: > Do any of you know of a good library that has a genealogy department and keeps > microfilm in the library? > > Paula
Dear Paula: I can recommend two. One is the Library of Congress in Washington, DC, and the other is the LDS Family History Center Main Library in Salt Lake City, UT Sincerely, Allan E. Green
In a message dated 98-10-21 09:57:12 EDT, you write: << I did/do not know about a Lewis Green who inherited land from William Green of the Seagull Family. Can you tell me a little bit ???? >> Hi David, I don't have all my records with me so I may not get this correct, but as I recall, the land on the Horsepen Creek in Amelia County, Virginia was owned by William Green, the son of Thomas "Seagull" Green, who married Amey Clay. When he died in 1727 his eldest son, Thomas Green became the guardian for his siblings, and inherited the 750 acre Horsepen Creek land. As I recall, Thomas Green died in 1792 and left this land to his son, Thomas Green (1735-1794) who married Martha Coleman. Over the years this land became owned by siblings, and William Green (son of William and Amey Clay Green) who in 1768 married his first cousin Obediance Green, (the daughter of Col. Abraham Green), also died in 1792. This couple had no children, and William had bought his sibling's interest in the Horsepen Creek land. When this William Green died, five of his nephews inherited the land, and a Lewis Green inherited 1/5 of the land as "heir-at-law" and this is the Lewis Green I am attempting identify. I have found two or three of the 5 nephews but have not found a Lewis Green as one of them. We can assume that this Lewis Green would have been at least age 21 in 1792, so he was born about 1772 or before. We are dealing with the generation that were the grandchildren of William and Amey Clay Green, so I ASSUME we are looking for a child named Lewis Green who was the son of either Thomas and Martha Green; William and Martha Green Williamson; Edward and Amey Green Moseley; Filmer and Ann Green; William and Obediance Green; or John and Mildred Davis Green. I have not been able to identify a child of any of these siblings named Lewis Green, but did get an E-Mail saying that Filmer and Ann Green had a son named Lewis Green. I will post this info to the list so the others can correct my mistakes and add to the story. Tom Green

Robin, Hi! I am a descendant of Asa Green (1808-1868) and 1st wife Isabelle Burgess (they were my 3rd gr. grandparents). Asa is buried here in Jackson Co., AL in McAnelly Cemetery. He was married 1st Isabelle Burgess in 1830, 2nd Eliza Childress in 1834, 3rd Annette Sartin 1850, 4th Ellender Rossen in 1856. He fathered a total of 13 children. I understand that he came to Alabama from up around Nashville, TN. Would love to exchange info with you or anyone else on this family, I haven't been able to get past Asa in Tennessee, either. I would appreciate any assistance that would help me in my research of my gg Grandfather, Henry Green. Henry was born approx 1789 and died Nov 2, 1870. Henry was granted 160 acres of Bounty Land in Springfield, Missouri for service in the war of 1812 . I would like to know what happened to this land? Can anyone advise me if there would be a listing of lands granted to these war vets, or can I access information from somewhere via the Internet? This information is sketchy at best, but it is all I have at this time, as it is unknown about Henry's birth place or his Country of origin. Thanks in advance,Barb. Kingston,Ontario,Canada .

Hi I am new to this list and am researching the Green Family from Alabama. My step grandfather, Bishop Green was born in Jackson Co, AL in 1911. His parents were John Richard Green and Louticia Jane Maynor. John was born in AL but Louticia was born in TN. Both were born in October of 1868. Johns parents were Rufus Freeland Green and Margaret A. Hollis. Both were born in AL, Rufus in September of 1839 and Margaret in November 1844. They had 13 children. Rufus F. Greens parents were Asa Green and Eliza Childress. Asa was born in TN, I have no idea where, lost the family then and have no idea how to find them back in TN. Asa had a total of 4 wives and lots of children. Would love to find a connection and have info to share as well as a picture of Rufus and Margaret. Robin
Congrat. on your nice weather. We've not had flooding here between Houston and Galveston but else where here in S. Tx. is still bad. Many river will crest tomorrow. My thought are also with those who have lost so much. Enjoy the get away, Elsie Green
I am looking for any available information about the family of Louise Green, born in New York on August 8, 1825. She had four children: Elsie, (born 11-26-1863) Imogene, Frank and Millard. She was married to an Eben Slawson, who also "grew up in New York," and presumably was born there. They left New York around the time of the civil war (probably just after) and Eben served for the Union in that war. Any help you can give me will be more than appreciated! Thanks, Marlene Partridge 1701 Valley Drive Las Vegas, NV 89108
Hi everybody, Anybody have a clue where we would look for Jewish Green Ancestors in PA, late 1700's-early 1800's? I think they were around the Bethlehem, Nazareth, Philadelphia area, but that's a guess on my part. I have approximately 91 files that were downloaded from the NARA/NAIL Ft Worth Texas, regarding applications for the Dawes Rolls ca 1894 to ca 1914. Anyone who would like to have these files, e-mail me privately drdarrel@suwanneevaley.net. I'll send them to you as an e-mail attachment. The information contained is the persons name, whether his/her application was approved. Their tribal affiliation and where they we living at the time of their application. In some cases their tribal census number will be given. This number is especially important in the event you wish to contact the Nation which they were a member of, for obtaining further information. Remember this Roll/Enumeration took place in Oklahoma and the town names are located there. I've had good success with my research using this data base. Darrel R. Bell
