    3. To Richard Harwood et al.: On 12/30 you wrote: "I have the subject MARY GREEN as the daughter of SARAH WHEELER and JOHN GREEN. Raymond David Wheeler in his "The Wheeler Family", Volume 2, page 38, states that she died young. My database, however, shows that she died April 11, 1736, and married DANIEL CADY born November 27, 1659 . . . " According to S. S. Greene, p. 9, Mary, the daughter of Sarah Wheeler and John Green, is considered to have died young because she is not mentioned in her father's will, prob. 10 Nov 1707 (Midd. Prob. 11: 177). Otherwise no further mention of her. "I have another MARY GREEN in my database also born December 1698 in Malden who married JOSEPH SARGENT about 1685." You had better go recheck your dates on that one. George L. Greene

    3. For Garland Horton, I am posting this back to the list in hopes someone might see it and be able to help both of us. Anyone reading postings to this list knows I have been tracking a gr grandfather Nathaniel/Nathan GREEN for some time, with out much luck.Nathan came from Virginia and landed in Indiana in 1857. Perhaps lived in KY in between. The only Nathan Green I found in the 1850 census, that was about the right age, was living in Ballard County, Kentucky, with a wife named Elizabeth and a son named Thomas, 6 years old. A Thomas born on the date you gave would still be 6 when the 1850 census was taken. (Nathan & Eliz. both born VA, Thomas born KY.) This is one possibility, I didn't find any of them in KY in 1860. Please let me know if you find Thomas' father was named Nathan? Harold Wayne Green

    3. Good evening to the GREEN list members, I have the subject MARY GREEN as the daughter of SARAH WHEELER and JOHN GREEN. Raymond David Wheeler in his "The Wheeler Family", Volume 2, page 38, states that she died young. My database, however, shows that she died April 11, 1736, and married DANIEL CADY born November 27, 1659, in Watertown, MA, and died April 04, 1736, in Canterbury, CT. I show one daughter, MARY born October 20, 1684, who married RICHARD ADAMS. I have another MARY GREEN in my database also born December 1698 in Malden who married JOSEPH SARGENT about 1685. This MARY died April 09, 1759 in Malden. This can't be the same MARY unless I have DANIEL CADY's death date incorrect. It appears that I definitely have my MARY GREEN's fouled up, and hope someone on the list can help me straighten them out. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. I was rereading some of my older Email and noticed most of the Thomas "The Seagull" Green's descendants do not get traced out to the 1800's and beyond. Most of my information is still in the early to mid 1700's. I would like to know if there is a Chart which would show his descendants to the extent of accepted knowledge. Bill P.S. Tom did you receive the Will? >> Hi Bill, Yes, I received the William Wood will and have been studying it, along with my data I have collected over the years. Thank you very much for ALL the information you have sent! I am hoping that by studying the WOOD family, I will find some new information on Thomas Green, the husband of Nancy Wood, that will show some connection to the Seagull Green family. So far that has not been the case, but I keep looking. I have probably told you that I have only seen two written comments indicating a connection of this Thomas Green to the Seagull Green family, but neither make sense. One comment says that this Thomas Green was the son of Thomas "The Seagull" Green, but that does not seem possible due to the birth dates. The other comment came from Louise on the internet, but she says the info came from a library, which mentioned that Judge Nathan Green was the son of Col. Abraham Green. This comment also does not make any sense, but both comments seem to indicate a connection to the Seagull family. The height of all these men also seems to indicate a connection, since all were over 6 feet tall. This is not much, but when combined with the fact that all lived in Amelia County, Virginia; I can come to no other GUESS but to continue to attempt to connect the family to the Seagull Green family. By the way, I was reading a Union version of the Red River campaign last night, and it helped me to better understand where Admiral Parter took the Union Navy and when they turned back after the Battle of Sabile Cross Roads, which was lead by General Tom Green on his own authority. This was the only victory of the Confederates during the Red River campaign. The location of Blair's Landing where General Tom Green was killed on April 12, 1864 is also better described in this article and I hope to find out more about Blair's Landing since I also research that family. Have you found any new data on the family? Thanks again for all your help! Tom Green

    1. [GREEN-L] Captain John Green of the Penn. State Navy.
    2. Hi Group, I recently found information about a Capt. John Green who was commissioned in the Pennsylvania State Navy October 10, 1776 and commanded the ship, "Nesbitt". He was later commissioned into the Continental Navy and was captured by the British and imprisoned in the Mill Prison near Plymouth, England in 1779. Capt. John Green had married, in June 1763, Alice Kollack the daughter of Lt. Jacob Kollack, and Alice converted all her jewelry and other belongings into GOLD and somehow managed to get the gold to her captive husband, who apparently bribed his way out of prison, and escaped to France, and later returned to the "Colonies" and was given command of another ship named "Duc du Lausan, which carried GOLD to pay the troops in America. Capt. John Green also reportedly gave his crew on the Nesbitt gold to aleviate their suffering, so it appears that AliceKollack Green had considerable GOLD! Does anyone know who this couple was and what Green family did Capt. John Green belong? One last item about Capt. John Green is that he and Capt. John Barry were sailing from Cuba in 1783 when they encountered the British fleet, and the last naval shots of the American Revolution were fired in this encounter between Fort Lauderdale and Cape Canaveral, Florida. Capt. John Green and his crew escaped the superior British fleet, and Capt. Green became a charter member of the Society of Cincinnati. In February of 1784, Capt. John Green sailed to the Orient and carried the American Flag into Chinese waters for the first time. I love history and especilly Naval history as I served as a Lt. in the US Navy in the 1960's. There has got to be a GREAT story about this couple! I would appreciate any information anyone might have about this family! Happy New Year! Tom Green TBGreen3@aol.com

    3. Hi George et al, The children born in Leicester are indeed the children of Sarah Sprague and William Green per the vital records of the town of Leicester and the "Vital Records of Leicester, MA to 1850". Nahum Green (my ancestor) relocated to Royalston, MA, and was the representative for that town to the 2nd Provincial Congress - he died of smallpox in Royalston shortly after. I would be delighted to hear from anyone related to the Leicester, MA Greens. I know I've seen some writing the list lately, but things were so hectic that I haven't had time to write anyone. 3. Lynda, Thank You for your responses, also. On my previous EMail, I got it mixed up. Charles Allen Green, my great grandfather married Mary Jameson. His father was Robert William Green and he was married to Mary Jane Duff. The Jamesons and Duffs were Scotch, according to my grandmother Elizabeth May Spencer's letter. Mary Jamesons parents were Marimon Dillard Jameson and Margaret McCormick. The McCormick's were Irish. Having no dates on them makes it hard. My grandmother Elizabeth May Spencer Green said all old Kentuckians would say they came from "Old Virginia". Francis Marimon Green was born 2 July 1912 in Scottsville, Kentucky. He died Nov. 1980. Charles Hubert Green, my grandfather was born in Allen Co., Kentucky, 20 Mar 1886 and Elizabeth May Spencer Green was born 13 Oct 1889 in Scottsville, Allen Co., Kentucky. I have an older sister, Francis Marie Green Coppens who was from Francis Marimon Green. She lives in Pearland, a suberb of Houston. Its been a while since I've been in touch with her. I hope we can both further our knowledge. Elaine Dennison hendenn@flash.net

    3. Dear Lynda, My only full sister's name is Lynda, too, spelled the same. This is a coincidence. She is from Francis Marimon Green also. We could be related. I only saw my grandmother Elizabeth May Spencer one time, but we corresponded by letter when I was in my early twenties. She spoke of at least some of her children living in Indiana. I think Claire, her daughter lived there and possibly Virginia. She may have spoken of other relatives living in Indiana also. Joseph Robert Green could be an ancestor because I don't think I have gotten back that far. On the Green side, I just know the name Robert William Green who married Mary Jameson. I don't have any other information on them except his son was Charles Allen Green who married Mary Jane Duff. I'm trying to go by memory, but will reread my letters from my grandmother and look at my records. Someone else thought I might tie into the Gregory line, also. I'll review what information I have and get back to you this week. Elaine Dennison from Tucson, Az. hendenn@flash.net I'm getting excited

Do I have any cousins, relatives, neighbors, or possible descendants among you? I still need to do a lot of research! They were all born in Allen Co., Kentucky. Francis, my father lived in Secour, Ilinois and my grandparents lived in Eureka. I have dates on them and about 4 generations on the Green side, but no further dates and about 5 or 6 generations on the Spencer side, but no dates past my grandmother Spencer. She was a descendant of Joseph Dollins. Thank You Very Much Elaine Dennison hendenn@flash.net
