    1. [GREEN-L] Cumberland County, Kentucky
    2. Joni Vella
    3. I have just received information that states that my ggggrandfather, Robert Robinson (Robeson) Green was born at Otter Creek, Cumberland County, Kentucky. First specific location I have had for his birth other than just Kentucky. The birth date I have always had for him is August 10, 1811. Have no clue as to parents or siblings. The birth date is only from secondary sources--newspaper obits, gravestone, bios. The new location information is from pension papers his second wife filed after his death in 1890. Robert served in the Black Hawk War in 1832. Anyone out there with Cumberland County Greens? 3. If your mother's name is Nancy Lou, she was born is Eastland Co. which is about 50 miles east of Abilene. Check out "Texas:" under "Records from Federal and State Resources:" at the following link: http://searches.rootsweb.com/ If you know when your grandmother or grandfather was born or when they died, try the Social Security Death Index at http://ssdi.genealogy.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/ssdi.cgi There were 14 Ira Greens and 17 Addie Greens listed with social security cards issued in Texas. 1. [GREEN-L] The Story Tellers
    2. I am not sure if this is a proper email to put here, but I believe it is pertinent to genealogy. I received this from a Moore cousin and thought I would pass it along. The Story Tellers... We are the chosen. My feelings are in each family there is one who seems called to find the ancestors. To put flesh on their bones and make them live again, to tell the family story and to feel that somehow they know and approve. To me, doing genealogy is not a cold gathering of facts but, instead, breathing life into all who have gone before. We are the story tellers of the tribe. All tribes have one. We have been called as it were by our genes. Those who have gone before cry out to us: Tell our story. So, we do. In finding them, we somehow find ourselves. How many graves have I stood before now and cried? I have lost count. How many times have I told the ancestors you have a wonderful family you would be proud of us? How many times have I walked up to a grave and felt somehow there was love there for me? I cannot say. It goes beyond just documenting facts. It goes to who am I and why do I do the things I do. It goes to seeing a cemetery about to be lost forever to weeds and indifference and saying I can't let this happen. The bones here are bones of my bones and flesh of my flesh. It goes to doing something about it. It goes to pride in what our ancestors were able to accomplish. How they contributed to what we are today. It goes to respecting their hardships and losses, their never giving in or giving up, their resoluteness to go on and build a life for their family. It goes to deep pride that they fought to make and keep us a Nation. It goes to a deep and immense understanding that they were doing it for us. That we might be born who we are. That we might remember them. So we do. With love and caring and scribing each fact of their existence, because we are them and they are us. So, as a scribe called, I tell the story of my family. It is up to that one called in the next generation to answer the call and take their place in the long line of family storytellers. That, is why I do my family genealogy, and that is what calls those young and old to step up and put flesh on the bones. (author unknown) TTYS, Dawn Green

    2. My g.g.grandfather, James M. Green (1795, S.C.) m. Mary Robins in KY..and..his sister, Mary Green, married James Robins. The LDS list for my James M. Green is incorrect and has his info intermingled with another James M. Green (1795, S.C.). and married to 2 other women at the same time. I have proof of my JMG's line down from him, but nothing about his parents. Anyone out there have this same problem or any further info? Thanks. Carlene [email protected]

Subj: Green Family Date: 07/19/2001 8:37:48 AM Pacific Daylight Time From: [email protected] (Stephen & Trudy) To: [email protected] Hello Charley, I was looking at a Green family web site and I saw that you had contributed to it. I may have written you before, I am a descendant of John Green & Elizabeth Helton, through their son, Troy Green DOB 9-6-1890, & Elsie Goldsmith, ( my grandparents) my father is Richard Truett Green DOB 1-3-1931, Grandpa Troy talked about living in Montague County, Texas as a child. Dad was born in Ft. Worth. My grandparents lived all over Texas. Gma was born in Navarro County as was several of my uncles. I keep hitting a brick wall. John & Elizabeth's children were Mardin, Clyde, Roy, Troy, Barney, Lawrence, & Bessie. There may have been more kids. I had an Uncle named Troy Green, who lived in Corpus Christi for most of his life. I just thought I would see if any of these names sound familiar to you. 1. Re: [GREEN-L] Re: the term "Scots-Irish"
    2. Robert Curtis
    3. Bob You are quite correct. It is Albion's Seed by David Hackett Fisher available from Amazon.com. The So called Scotch-Irish did not leave what they called the borderlands between Scotland and England by choice. The King rounded the border people up and shipped them to Ireland to get rid of them. Thus the name of Irish was attached to them. They were not happy in Ireland, their religion was in conflict with the Irish and eventually came on over here. They were used to fighting in the border wars and did not fit into the communities so went on through away from the other settlers and established in the remote backcountry areas on what was then the western frontier of Virginia and etc. Becoming boarder people all over again now in a new country. They fought the Indians off protecting the western flank. This is what they were good at. When the British tried to attack us from the west after defeating the French, it was these So called Scotch-Irish that save our neck. The British couldn't get through them to the colonies and were defeated. I am over simplifying the whole story but it is very interesting how the customs in these areas today are identified with the customs that existed in the borderlands in Britain. The book is over 900 pages and very informative. 3. This book is also online and fully searchable with a subscription to Genealogylibrary.com - there are several other books on the various Green(e) lines there as well. Although I can't really recommend Genealogy.com as a company because of their recent changes, access to these books is just great. 2. The book Albion's Seed, (I think that is the title), which gives an excellent account of various streams of immigration from Great Britain, says that Scotch-Irish includes more than just the plantations in Northern Ireland. It says the the immigration to the colonies included transplanted Scots in Northern Ireland, lowland Scots, and also residents of the northern English counties and that all these got lumped into the term Scotch-Irish.

He and his brother Isreal show up on the 1815 and 1820 Tax lists in Cumberland Co., Downe Township. The other Green's that show up on these lists are probably relatives but I can't find any info to prove this. James married a Rebecca Tice in Cumberland Co., can't find any info on her either.
