Someone showed me this site long ago and it has been very useful in locating cities, cemetery, military, churches, schools and many others locations. http://geonames.usgs.gov/pls/gnis/web_query.gnis_web_query_form It is a US Government site. Great for locating Counties when only the city name is known. Maps are available along with ariel photos and topo maps for many areas. Bob Green

    2. CHARLES J GREEN
    3. I am looking for anything on the Davis Green Family that showed on the 1870 Coffee County, TN Census. Davis was a civil war veteran who served in: No. 1- Confederate Infantry, 44th Tennessee Mounted Infantry and 2- Confederate infantry, 44th Consolidated Regiment, Tennessee Infantry. The Census shows his family as the following: Davis Green age 45 Hulda Green age 45 Gideon Green age 18 Susan Green age 16 Nancy Green age 12 Mary Green age 10 Tampy Green age 7 William Green age 5 I find no other listings of the family anywhere before or after this Census. I have heard through oral family history that part of the family moved to Arkansas abt 1896/7. Have seen postings on the geneology.com forum that Mary Green married a George Painter but cant get hold of the person that posted the item. William Edward Green is my Great Grandfather and he and his wife Susan Elizabeth Dunning Green both died in the 1930s and are buried in Glenwood, Arkansas. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thank You, Jack Green

    1. [GREEN-L] Social Security fee hike
    2. This message if from another list. Thought I would help by passing it on. It would be nice if we could get the cost back down. Hi everyone - Talking about Social Security - someone wrote her congress man - he in turn wrote Social Security - the letter they wrote him is pure "gobbly-goop". Her Congressman sent her a copy of the letter he had received. In the letter her Congressman wrote to her, he said for her to call his aide - which she did. They said they would take it up in Congress. [we will see] If every one of you would write 'snail mail' to your Congressman / Representive and complain about it - it just may do some good. She spoke to a woman at Social Security and asked her what was the reason going from $7.00 to $27.00 this is her reply to me. "There are so many workers at the age of retirement - and they are NOT going to be replaced - leaving a few to do all of the work. By raising the rates so high, they are discouraging us from asking for the records." She would not give her name - understandable - The Congressman agreed that the cost from $7.00 to $27.00 sounds unreasonable. So, please write your Congressman / Representive - and by the way they don't pay any attention to e-mails because there is no signature on them, no proof it came from you - any one can send an e mail with any name on it - BUT with a snail mail letter they figure that represents 50 voters - AND Snail mail letters they do pay attention to - e-mail letters they don't. So please write your Congressman and your Representive - pass this on to the other lists you belong to, if you want. We have changed things before, and we can do it again, if we all work together. Those original applications have helped me a great deal, telling me parents names I didn't know - and where they worked. By raising the rates like this, Social Security is hindering our efforts to find our families. 'nough said -

    3. I, too, am researching the Greens in Maury Co., but have had no success as of yet. By chance, in your research, have you run across a Josiah Green (b. 1801)? I have no idea who his parents or siblings were. He married Fanny Norman on February 6, 1823 in Maury Co. They had several children including John Newton Green (b. 1824) and then the family migrated up to the Christian and Montgomery Counties area of IL. John Newton Green married Elizabeth Thomason in 1841, quite possibly in Maury Co. Thank you for sharing so much information on the Green family in that area. 3. Norma: In Frank L. Greene, "Descendents of Joseph Greene of Westerly, R.I......., under Other Greenes: p 462 (end of book) "A sketch of the descendants of Jabez5 Greene (Nathasn4, John3, John2, John1, of Kingston, R.I.) was published in Narraganseltt Historical Register of Providence, R.I., Jan 1891." I have no idea of this is the person, which you are looking for, but it was the only Jabez in the book's index.
